"Trent!" A young female elf bounded down the path that led from her house into the woods toward her vampiric lover.
"Hey." He smiled a little at her excitement and took her into his arms.
This is dangerous;I should not let her fall so deeply in love with me. I fear it can only hurt her. It is wrong, yet I cannot bring myself to break her so thuroughly as to leave her. I cannot dream of hurting her when she acts like this, so trusting.
Her bloodred eyes traveled up his pale skin and met his almost startlingly same-colored ones. She smiled carefreely, contentedly. Her eyes were a quirk in her Dark Elven bloodline that everyone around her (which, admittedly, weren't really all that many) had grown used to. Trent brushed a lock of her straight long white hair behind a blueish-gray pointed ear and kissed her. She looked at the contrast in their skins, his almost too pale, hers slate-like.
"Come, Seimian, my love. Let us walk tgether. I would like to speak with you."
They wandered nonchalantly through the forest. Seimian could tell that someting was wrong; Trent seemed sad. This made Seimian sad, since she misinterpreted it as something that she had done. She sighed.
"I'm sorry"
Her words jerked Trent out of his revere.
what? Did she just...apologise?
"It must be so hard for you, being with me. I'm so ugly, and I have no kin, no higi social standing, nothing to benefit you at all. While you, you are so beautiful, so... popular. You could have any girl from any of the factions, and that is without your 'powers of persuasion' or hyponitism or whatever you call it. I wish-"
She paused, as if searching for the right words to correctly convey her feelings.
"I wish I could be better for you. I wish I could be a good vampiress for you. I would do anything, -anything-, to be even the least bit worthy of you."
Her talk troubled Trent.
Her, not worthy of me? Does she really see herself as that low, as that worthless? Surely there must be other people who care about her. Her brother, Kyto, the old healer woman Sano... maybe not as many as I thought. I can see where she might be a little envious of me, but not like this. Wanting to become a vampire? I fear that what I have to say to her will only make things worse.
"Seimian-" He began, stopping near a brook that ran through the forest, and sighed. "There was an ols woman in the market today. She first attracted my attention because I could not discern what race she belonged to. IT was something ancient, a mix of human and Seer and Goblin, I believe. Most of what she said didn't make alot of sense to me."
He was reculant to continue, but Seimian's questioning eyes proded him onward.
"A long, rambling speach made short, the four major factions are now at war with eachother. It's Vampire against Dark elf against Zombie against Human. As soon as I heard this, I enlisted. I must fight to protect my family-"
He saw the way her eyes tightened a little in pain and hastened to add,
"-and I will fight for you too. Kyto was with me at the time and felt it was his duty as your only kin to also enlist. I could not stop him; Even if I tried, he would only sneak back later. I am in a ... batallion... that leaves tomorrow. I beg you, stay with your brother, for things are not as they were. It would be dangerous for us to be seen together, very dangerous for you. You do not know how...righteous some of my friends are. I would never forgive myself if they hurt you. Until we meet gain..."
Trent took her hand in his and kissed her palm, letting his fangs brush against her wrist, smiling as her heartrate sped up.
no matter what she says, she is still a little nervous and wary around me. I wish I could change that.
He took a step backwards and disappeared into the shades of the afternoon forest shadows.
