(still Rachael's POV)
"Hey! Rachael! Are you deaf or something?! Hey wait!" I heard someone yell. I stopped and turned to see my ex-boyfriend, Trevor. "What do you want, Trevor?" I hissed. "Wow. Day's barely started and you're already in a bad mood," he huffed as I glared at him. "Oh come on, Rach. Lighten up a bit. At least--OW!" he yelled the last part, rubbing his arm, as I walked away from him. As I took my seat in English, I noticed a girl about my height standing at Mr. Johansen's desk. It wasn't until she turned around that I saw she looked exactly like me. The same brown eyes, same light brown hair. I would've sworn she was my twin sister if I didn't already know I was an only child. At least, that was what Dad had told me. That I was an only child, and that my mother had died after my birth. As she saw me, a look of surprise and confusion flickered on her face for an instant, then changed back to a look of indifference. Just then, the bell rang, signalling that class was starting. "Okay, everyone," Mr. Johnasen announced. "We have a new student today. Please try to make Miss...uh...what was your name again?" he said, turning his head toward her. "Renae, but I prefer Ren" the brunette stated indifferently. "Uh, yes, as I was saying. Please try to make Miss Renae feel welcome," he continued, motioning for her to take a seat. "Why don't you sit next to Rachael, Renae? Rachael, please raise your hand so Renae can find you." I rolled my eyes as I raised my hand. "It's Ren, Mr. J." I heard her say. "Mr. Johansen, Ren," the teacher corrected. "Sure, sure," Ren retorted. With a stern look from Mr. Johansen, "Ren" took her seat next to me. I made no move to talk to her though. I never got close to anyone anymore. As everyone that I'd ever grown close to always left me, never to return. Class seemed to drag on. Then the bell rang, and it was time for math. "Ugh, Trigonometry..." I mumbled to myself as I gathered my books for the next class. This class went the same way as English. Ren was there, too. I was grateful when the bell rang for lunch. All through class I could feel Ren's eyes on me, as if she were studying me, like a scientist studies rats in a maze in their futile quest for the cheese in the center. As I was putting my things in my locker, I heard someone scream, "You obnoxious pervert! Just who the hell do you think you are?!?" and a pained groan. I turned to see Ren jamming her elbow into Trevor's stomach and Trevor falling to the floor. "Rach?! What the--" "Rach?!" Ren shouted, cutting him off. "My name is Ren. Who is this "Rach" you're talking about?" "Rach is my ex-girlfriend's name. Well, Rachael. Wow, you look just like her..." Trevor trailed off, raising his arms to defend against her should she decide to hit him again. I walked slowly over to them and put my hand on Ren's shoulder. "I'm Rach, er, Rachael," I explained as I helped Trevor up off the floor, trying to support him as he almost doubled over with pain. "And this idiot is my ex-boyfriend, Trevor." Ren stared at me for a few seconds then said, "Hn. He's right. We do look alike." and shrugged as she turned and walk away.
