Well to start off it was predictable... mostly. For anyone who hasn't read the series [either], the ending scene is the only thing you'd probably not predict. The rest however is easier to predict than your own age.
The humorous parts were a nice touch, but a lot of them didn't fit into the movie, while some were completely backwards.
The story itself was alright, but they left some possibly good parts out in the Theatre release- although they'll be in the special edition DVD. Quite a few people agree about this key statement: the author should stick by the books.
The actor choices... probably only one or two really do fit the bill for the characters, though in a personal opinion, the only one that DID fit their character by looks to their character [never read the series, remember that] would be James- the blonde ponytailed villain.
Extra note!- I don't want to put any spoiler info for those who haven't seen or read Twilight. It would not only ruin the experience if they DO see or read it, but for those that have done one or both, they'd pester their friends and family with the info i would and wouldn't give out.
For a lighter touch in the review, though still honest, the aspect of vampires being thrown 170° around is a gigantic plus. Not only does it separate itself from nearly every stereotype for vampires aside from the drinking blood and looking pale with fangs; but it also allows for anyone who cosplays a character to be infinitely creative.
Back to the brutality for us now, eh? The script itself gets to be too forward with lines for certain characters, and every action-esque sequence is entirely too short. Even with no line in the theatre and excellent service, you'd skip one entirely with the time it'd take to get a refill on a soda. I'm not saying it needs more action, i'm just saying the action it has needs to be stretched abit. And i don't doubt the DVD release will have an abundance of it to overcome that problem.
Now, off of the movie and on to the fanbase, shall we? I have a statement that will be right after my final rating, and it's for a LARGE group of fanatics. The majority of the fans are [of course] girls centered on Edward. A bit obsessive, don'cha think? To make it worse, they're LOUD. Not loud talking loud; loud screaming loud. How glad i am to have missed the midnight showing. their excited screams almost made my brain literally explode. When it comes to audiences for this movie, bring a full bottle of aspirin, earmuffs, and chloroform spray. it'll take that much to be able to hear any key part of the movie. A noseplug is recommended too, because quite a few fans may be wearing perfume, and the mixed smell is painful.
Overall, if you're gonna watch the movie, get a private screening in a soundproof room [both from the inside out and outside in] and be on a date. It'll save you a headache, money for ear and nose protection, and it's the only way you'd have a good time watching it if you aren't a die hard fanatic.
If you're debating whether to watch the movie or read the book and its series, read the series. The movie is not worth the money for a matinee unless you're obsessed with the book.
My rating: 6.5 / 10 at best.
FOR THOSE THAT READ THE BOOK BECAUSE IT WAS COMING OUT IN THEATRE [including any and every detail in the movie], GROW A MIND OF YOUR OWN! You should know that anyone who reads a book because it was or will be a movie is one of many who will end up having a horrible life if they never be themselves. Whether or not anyone in any movie is attractive shouldn't determine if you should read that movie's book or watch that movie. No matter WHO the actor is.
