*Christian Serano has a line of charity Shirts out. This infuriates me. He's a flamboyantly gay man who popularized the phrase "Tranny Mess" while on American Idol. That's right. He's a gay man who popularized a transexual mocking phrase among the straight/cis population. Because he's gay, average folks feel that he's basically given them permission to mock transfolk with what amounts to LGBT blessing. Guess what charity its for? Go on, guess. It's the HRC. you know, the same people who threw transfolk under the bus last year over ENDA, knowing full well it would get vetoed anyway. I would be a little more understanding if it had been for actual political gain, but they sacrificed principles to get nothing at all except to show that they care the least about the most vulnerable segment of the community. It's wonderfully symbolic that a gay man who is famous for transfolk mocking is raising money for an organization happy to take our money, but unwilling to help or protect transfolk when the chips are down. For the record, "tranny" is like the n-word. you really only should say it if you are one and are using it in a reclaiming sense. (Example: They can kiss my tranny a** if they think I'm going to shut up about wanting my civil Rights!" wink For the record also, I want to make clear that this rant is specifically about one man and one organization I have issues with. Obviously, I'm not pissed at gay men in general or LGBTQ organizations in general.
