Sam was starting to get on my nerves. Just because his girlfriend likes me doesn't mean he has a right to call me names. I was sitting at the lunch table glaring at Sam when Claire interrupted me.
"Jesse." Claire said. I blinked twice coming out of my thoughts before I looked at her.
"What?" I asked calmly. She gave me a look.
"You need to forget what Sam said. As long as you know you didn't do anything wrong, you'll be fine."
That's one thing I liked about Claire. She doesn't care what anybody thinks. Me, on the other hand, always cares.
"Easy for you to say." I said. "You're not a blood-sucking teenager."
"Being a vampire has nothing to do with it. Just because you a 17 year old vampire doesn't mean you have to care." She remarked as she lifted a forkful of salad in her mouth. I stared blankly as she stabbed the salad.
"Did you know we are getting a new student?" She asked interrupting me again. "She's gonna be in our class."
"Do you know where she's from?" I asked.
"Um....no. I'm not a teacher, so I wouldn't know." She said as she dropped her fork on her plate.
"So how'd you know?" She reached in her big purse and pulled out a file.
"She's not from Mississippi. So nothing to worry about." She said sliding me the papers. "You never told me why you are scared of people from Mississippi."
"The last person that came here from there was a werewolf. Close encounter." I explained.
"Oh." Claire said.
"Her name is Sydney Matthews. She's from Cali."
"Why would she move here?" She asked.
"Rhode Island is a good place to live." I said.
"For you." She rolled her eyes.
