chapter one
One night a girl who was always alone walked out onto her lawn. Her name is Lola. Sure, she has parents that love her, but they where getting divorced. Also, her voice comes and goes, if its there, it doesn’t stay for long. Lola looked at there big black sky with the distant stars that look so close yet are so very far away. A lone star fell across the endless sky. “I wish someone would understand me.” The shooting star seemed to pulse, and then Lola heard a voice that sounded like a hundred silver bells.

“Little girl I hear your cry
From up here in the sky
No longer shall thy be sad
For thy’s wish granted
Shall be my goal
One million rain drops
Fall from thy’s eyes
Because of many more hallow lies
Sleep well tonight
My dear child for
All shall be reviled to thee
In dawns dim light”
Lola went to bed not knowing what the morning brings. Mean while s boy by the name of Danny walks the empty street he once called home. Past the street lights flickering, teasing him, mocking the happiness he once had of playing in the light, acting like the light burned. The cold doctor’s words rang through his head, too numb to relies they where gone forever Danny took a left and as the town sank behind him the words finally sunk in. Mom. Dad. Why did you leave me?? Danny thought. Just when they finally stopped fighting each other. Danny started to run. He was trying to run so fast that the sadness imbedded in his heart could not reach him. It did not work. Crying as he ran Danny found him self what seemed like an eternity later, he saw an open field now what he asked himself as he watched the stars shine. There wasn’t a cloud in sight. Danny laid in the grass and watched the stars, wondering if any one new how if felt to feel as if the whole world was crashing down on you once the dust from the last cold breeze starts to settle. Guess that’s how life works he thought, wiping away the last tear. Danny watched a star dance through the sky. I wish I wasn’t alone, I don’t want to be noticed by every one or any thing wishing star, I just wish for a friend that understood and that we were in thins world then Danny thought the word. The one word that he had always been told to use only once in his life. He heard something that sounded like a wind chime yet, t’was a voice.

“Please do not cry little ‘un
For thou is not alone
Tis a little girl with great power
She calls for you
She will guide thee
Into the darkness in thee own heart
I just pray
To see the day
You find out her cause
To help thee”
Danny gasped as the star burst into many different stars as the word rang through his head.
Lola walked to the bathroom. Uhg she thought as she looked in the mirror. Lola raked a brush through her hair and looked much better. Why worry, you could go to school with an afro and no one would know your there. Lola asked her self. After letting her cat Suzie out side, she looked at the clock. Oh no! School starts in nineteen minutes! She thought. Lola grabbed her back pack and ran out the door and down the street. Running all the while, Lola didn’t notice the bird in front of her until she tripped and it was an inch from her face. “Oh!” Lola exclaimed when she saw it. Lola scooped him up and ran home twice as fast (without even stumbling thank you) and brought him to her animal helping room (yes she needs to find a better name but hey, she named it when she was six!) Lola wrapped up the bird’s broken wing and put him in a large bird cage and ran to school. Luna was 5 minutes late, but that was okay because her teacher was too. “Made it” Lola whispered. She felt a hand on her back, “but just barely.” Her teacher smiled. After every one took their seats Mr.Monogrim said “class to day we have a new student. His name is Danny. He is the new kid we told you about yesterday.” Yes, that Danny Lola thought the one that lost his parents and that’s staying at that orphanage. Lola examined him briefly before deciding, he hadn’t gotten over his parents death. Lola could tell that about a person, always could. Whether they where sad, exited, lying, anything. Mr.Monogrim broke Lola’s thought off by saying “sit right next to……. Lola. She’s behind Makayla over there” Mr.Monogrim pointed. Lola gulped. A new kid means questions. Lots of word-involved-non-answerable questions. She thought. Danny slumped in the chair next to Lola. Wonder if the orphanage will make me leave if I don’t get adopted he thought. Danny closed his eyes and listened to the speech the teacher was giving. The bell rang and Lola had knocked her stuff over so Danny bent to help her pick it up. Mr.Monogrim noticed that they were last in the room. “Oh Lola, sorry for the inconvenience but could you show Danny were his classes are?” Lola opened her mouth, and then just nodded when no sound came out. So that’s what I am. Danny thought an inconvenience. Lola pulled on Danny’s sleeve to get his attention. She pointed to a classroom farther down the hall. “That’s the next class?” Danny asked. Lola nodded and pointed to the teacher (who was really short) and walked to her seat. Danny walked up to the teacher and she told him where to sit and gave him a schedule. Danny sat next to makayla and in front of Lola. Makayla whispered “Listen, I know Lola probably didn’t speak to you but, she can’t talk. Some times she can, but other times she’s mute.” Danny looked at Makayla “really? That has to suck.” Makayla nodded and focused on her notes. After class Lola tapped Danny’s shoulder and looked at the schedule. She pulled his sleeve and walked him to his next class, math, then disappeared in the crowd of people walking to algebra (Danny was in 8th grade stem, a class that took advanced math students and got them to study geometry). Danny got dizzy suddenly. He felt warm then cold. The word healer popped into his head. Weir he thought. After class Lola was waiting at the door. “Hey” Danny said “how did you get here so fast?” Lola pointed to the classroom crossed the hall and replied “I had class in there. P.E is now, the gyms this way.” Danny was surprised she spoke and fallowed her to gym. Makayla ran up to Lola and Danny “Hey can I sit with you at lunch Lola? Morgan (the most popular girl in school) is out to get me because I’m wealthier then her! And tom (her body guard) can’t hide me like you can.” I think its time you learned more about Makayla. Her father owns a soda pop factory and so, lots of other soda company want their recipe so they have to have a body guard (because of ransom and all that) her mom died a few year after she was born so Makayla doesn’t remember so good. Any way Lola nodded and smiled. So, the three new friends sat together and ate lunch. Danny bought his lunch and Lola and Makayla packed. “What is that brown stuff?” Lola asked Danny. “I think it’s a brownie” Makayla said. “Brownies don’t move” Lola said as the mouse that was in the brownie jumped out and ran towards the exit sign. Danny laughed “wow not even the mice like the food here!” they all laughed. After school as Lola walked home, she stopped at the park. Lola sat on her favorite swing and sat there for a while. “Oh!” she remembered the bird. She jumped up and ran home.
Danny was walking home and he saw Lola at the park. He was about to say hi but something made him stop. He got another dizzy spell. Suddenly he saw an image of a bird in two hands…. Something was amiss though….. The bird was glowing. When Danny looked up from his vision Lola was gone. Suddenly “Tis a little girl with great power/She calls for you” rang in his head.


“NO” Lola cried. The bird wasn’t breathing. She scooped him up and whispered “don’t die please…….. Please………. Aloma” Lola blinked. Huh? Aloma? She thought. The bird glowed brightly, blindingly. The bird’s bandages dropped to the floor. He was healed.
