Child Abuse
I was watching the music video to Concrete Angel by Martina McBride and I remembered something sad. When I was little, my mom used to abuse me. If I hadn't gotten out of there when I did, I might not have made it. I definately know that I wouldn't be the person I am today. Child abuse is very real and very prominate in today's society, weather society wants to admit it or not. Sometimes the child will be so scared of the abuser that they can't speak up for themselves. That was what happened to me. But I also loved my mom and I didn't want to let her go or be taken away from her. I was one of the lucky children, though. For many victims of child abuse, they never get out of it, some even ending up dying. Many have no one to go to to get away. Many also don't have anyone that they trust enough, or that they feel they can trust enough, to tell and get help from. One thing is for sure: the child is never the same after the abuse; they are permanately scarred and will always carry the memories deep inside themselves. I myself don't remember much about the abuse that happened to me, but that was my only defense: to block out the memories and pretend that they weren't real. Even though I don't remember an awful lot about it, I still know that it happened. I just hope that if I ever have the chance, I will be able to help save someone if they are in need of saving. In a world of pain and confusion, any kindness to an abused child is a great comfort and a sign of hope that things can get better. If any of you ever have the chance, don't hesitate to speak up for someone who can't speak up for themself. Trust me, it'll mean everything to them.
