I am Jenny, the oldest of the daughters of Helen Zink. My 2 sisters, our mother and our father, Lance, make up our quaint little family. We live in an old farm house on the banks of a river in New York. Our house is old, large and its look is like an Victorian doll house.

My younger sister, Leanne, she loves animals and she has always wanted a dog, so when we first moved in I saved up my money from working in the family shop. About 5 weeks later I visited the animal shop and saw a puppy at the door. It was a golden retriever and it was adorable. I went into the shop and approached the owner to ask if I could buy the dog from him. He said that the puppy wasn’t for sale but he did have another dog. He went into the back and he returned with a shabby little fur ball in his arms. It was a English Shepard and it was as cute as a button. I had to buy it. I paid most of my money on the dog and spent the rest on a leash and a collar. I promised the man I would work for him if he could pay me in dog food. He agreed and so I headed home and the puppy was right at my side. Its little legs were having trouble keeping up and I had to walk very slow.

On my way home I decided to walk through the park. On my way down my favorite path I saw my littlest sister Margaret rounding the corner. She spotted me and ran up to me. “Awe, Jen, mommy is very worried. You’re in big trouble.” “ Yes, Maggie, I know.” I turned to see my mother walking down the path holding Leanne’s hand. “Ah, mother, I can explain.” “I very well hope you can young lady. No mater what your excuse though you’re still grounded for a week. Understand?” “Yes mama. I understand.” I turned to Leanne. “I have a present for you. Would you like to see?” Let me see! Let me see! Let me see!” cried Leanne. I walked the dog over to her and said “Here you go Leanne. What should we name him?” Leanne stared at me like I was from another planet. “Oh where ever did you get enough money?!” “I always work hard for the things that make other people happy” I replied. Our mother walked up to us to see what all the commotion was about and I saw her face drop in disbelief. “Jenny what have you done?” she asked me. I looked at her confused and then realized something I had forgotten. Our father was allergic to dogs. He was away right now but would be returning within the week.
I can’t believe I got Leanne’s hopes up and only to take the dog away and return it. And I still have to work at the store.
