So I'm rediscovering my fondness for anime, after a long and disappointing year in 2008. Nothing really seemed to appeal to me, and it seemed everyone and their mother was in love with Code Geass, an anime which, according to a friend of mine, actually punishes you for not paying attention. So far, my list is topped with X'amd, Kuroshitsuji, and Chaos Head. I'm also rediscovering shows people have been harping on about to me for a while now, including Fate/Stay Night and Higurashi (When They Cry).
I especially love Higurashi. It's been a while since I've seen something as sadistic and enticing. Well, I guess we did watch Elfen Lied in Anime Club last semester. But this one takes me back to when I first started watching anime. Back to the days of Vampire Hunter D and M.D. Giest. Only Higurashi isn't quite quite like either of those titles. It's subtle enough to probably be aired on TV in Japan but not overkill like the gory horror anime of the late 80's and early 90's. Speaking of which, I've got Garaga lined up in my instant Netflix Queue along with Lady Death and a lot of documentaries and old classics.
