♥blah♥blah♥blah♥
So here we are; on the road finally. Right now we’re riding in our rented car that now smells like sushi and sweet chicken. I’m on my computer listening to The Shins (thank you so much Kenseh!) and not listening to my parents. We’re heading towards Washington DC. I bought a Beatles CD, Magical Mystery Tour FTW. ^_^ My mother bought a book on a CD also, I’m not planning on listening to it. The weather man said that all of the east cost would be getting rain but all I can see from every direction is baby blue skies.
We’ve just entered Mass. The car we’re driving feels like a closet somehow, dark colors and small windows. My mother is uncomfortable being so low to the ground. We just crossed a huge bridge, the empty space between my feet and the ground makes my legs itch. It’s hard to tell the difference from Massachusetts and New Hampshire, but New Hampshire highways have an unbroken wall of trees on both sides of the road while Massachusetts roads are more open with fields and there are a lot of tall bridges. My brother gave me a walkman that doesn’t work, but it’s the thought that counts, plus he gave me something to charge my computer with while in the car. I’m touched. A hawk flew over our car, so close I could see its eyes; it seemed to fit into the landscape. I wish I could have seen this place when there wasn’t a highway cutting through it. The shapes of the mountains in Mass are so odd, some are kind of like camels, some are a lot stranger. Huh. We passed a town, the highway was far above so we only saw roof tops and church peeks, and water towers miles away. It saddened me that in the car next to me a child’s eyes were aimed at a game she was playing with herself, while mine were gathering all the information possible. I wonder if she’ll ever regret not enjoying her innocence when she gets older. Springfield looks an awful lot like the suburbs of Boston. OK, I’ll type more when more in the next state.
It looks like we’ve entered Connecticut, It’s very flat here, well not very flat just flatter than I’m used to. The biggest difference seems to be that there aren’t any evergreens! Oh, there are a few—but my point is there are hardly any. The highway is very busy, and this car gets a lot of radio stations. There are a few fluffy white clouds splattered onto the sky here, it’s still beautiful. The highway is very well lighted; it’s not night but I can see all the lights (it’s strange). We’re in the center of Hartford now, the skyline is about as high as it is in Manchester, but there are more buildings that actually reach the skyline than in Manchester. We just passed a mosc looking building with broken windows, not sure what to make of it. Haha, you see how knowledgeable I am about cities; my only references are Boston, Manchester, Nashua, and Concord. It’s not as flat in this area, the guard rails are different here, and they seem to be more paranoid here too. New Hampshire probably wouldn’t have put guard rails for that tiny little slope. I saw a sign pointing to New York—how cool. Random moment of complete Déjà vu. I’ve never been in a city like this… c-- AAHH! O_O That old lady nearly hit us. That was way to close… O_O;… well anyway. I’ve never been to a city like this, we just passed an enormous junkyard full of broken cars, and another yard of some sort with 100 bright yellow school busses. I see a pickup truck that doesn’t look particularly redneck-ish. I also see a LOT of cranes, and billboards, and colorful houses, and the ocean. Now we’re headed straight to N.Y.C! Holy crap, I just saw an enormous mall, it looked twice as big as the one in Nashua (the biggest mall in NH). It seems like we’re still in the suburbs, so many thick and tangled power lines, dingy buildings with names you’ve seen on commercials but never paid attention to, brick mills with columns empty of smoke, and those brightly colored houses. The population of trees is greatly outnumbered by power lines, and these rusty mills, a building with broken windows, all furniture inside abandoned, the ocean is still close. The trees have come back now, although twisted and old, they are a welcome sight. Most of Connecticut just looks like the area surrounding Boston. Damn, I just missed a sign that seemed to say something like Nerd to Go… oh well. These power lines hang over the bridge like hair, thin like puppets strings. Houses clustered to face the open water, like thirsty rats scrambling for a drink, they almost overlap, and I can’t help but wonder what it’s like to live in these towns. I see stout shiny buildings, and more brightly colored homes and mills surrounding them. Oi… my poor legs, my poor computer. I don’t think there are as many power lines as there used to be…
Hey, guess what! I’m in New York, oh yeah. Oh, I see a skyline, and a kong long tunnel (I couldn’t see the keys). The highway seems to be on a lower altitude, it’s hard to see. There are more brightly colored overlapping houses here. Lots of big brick apartment buildings, the sky isn’t as blue, my parents are naming street names, crowded cemeteries, skyline for as far as the eye can see, everything is brick, nets, junk yard, yellow hot dog van, a park with huge twisted trees, and I’m grateful for the horrendous traffic, it’s so difficult to try to type all the things I’m seeing! @_@ A winding train, a slutty girl on a billboard, rust, brick, obnoxious drivers, sleeping legs, layers of graffiti, trash dumped and left for the world to wish they weren’t seeing, HUGE BRIDGE, New York skyline, old buildings, new buildings, welcome to the Bronx. I’m glad I’m typing this all out, my brain is about to explode, I’d never’ve remembered all of this! I’m gonna have to put more detail into this later.
I’m in New Jersey now. More flat landscapes, the signs are a darker color than they are up north. Very, very cluttered houses. Long grass like in Maine covers any earth saved from the concrete. There’s a large airport here apparently, I just saw a plane taking off to Portugal. There are ever more cranes in the distance, to welcome ships no doubt. Crooked power lines, rusted columns infecting the white sky, brown walls guard our sad eyes from what we know is there, the trees are gone, at least the grass is green. One of those folding bridges. I’m sure this place would be friendlier if the sky was blue. I see bright yellow flowers, the sun is shining through the clouds, it’s not so bad. The trees seem fuzzy somehow and kind of young; the landscape is tangled and frizzy, it kinda looks like the trees have slit ends. There are a lot of buildings. I went to a Travel Mart and got French fries, greasy chicken, and soft serve ice cream. Yum razz Well the sky is definitely gray now, darn. There are a lot more trees now, kind of looks like the long way to Keane, except not as nice. There are so many water towers from Massachusetts down, and from Connecticut down there are so many power lines (refuse to shut up about the power lines!). Weird. The landscape is definitely much flatter. *yawns* I’m so tired… still 3 more hours to go x_x I’m seeing more evergreens… this looks a little like the outskirts of Concord , a LITTLE. We just went passed a weeping willow tree, and I found out it’s windy here. I can see red on the trees, buds are coming, and the grass is green here too. Lucky. This is a very ritzy toll booth here, I wonder what the point of that is… This is a HUGE bridge, not as grand as the bridge in New York but still huge. It looks like a city of mills, columns, and rust. The sea is the same color as the sky, a light gray.
Delaware. The grass is so green, it looks an awful lot like NH here, even though NH has more hills and taller trees and less rust. There are way too many toll booths. It looks just like the south part of NH. I’m bored.
Maryland. Looks like the cost of NH, I don’t get to go to the coast a lot so. ^.^ There are a lot of Popeye restaurants. It smells like rain. It’s nice here. This looks like the nice part of NH, open forests and barns, almost like Vermont. No, no, it’s just like the coast of Mass! Except without the coast. razz It’s so strange watching cherry trees slowly mesh together with ordinary maple and oak; they’re in full bloom and so beautiful, even the scrawny ones. It looks like the freeze never even came here, the trees are basically bare but the grass is so green and full, some of the bushes even have leaves!
WASHINGTON DC, BABY! The highway is clean; the guard rails are made to look like stone walls. There are lots of cherry blossoms now, and although everything looks very ritzy I still see tired men walking through the streets carrying grocery bags. No one wants to acknowledge them but I will. We’re crossing a well made bridge with lanterns on every side—four of the lanterns lights are broken, ruining the affect. There are lots of places to eat. In the distance we can see the white house, that’s when it finally hits me, I’m in DC. On both sides there are grand, magnificent buildings. Huge marble columns and carvings. Totally over whelming! I’ll have to go into detail later. We passed the hotel and had to circle around the washingtonsomething, but we made it to the Marriott. We settled down in the room and then we went out to eat. We ate at a place called Lia’s that wasn’t very good. I had a bacon and cheese burger that was too big and I ate the mushrooms my father ordered, they were delicious. We walked in the drizzle back to the hotel, the sky was the kind of color that had me searching for the bat signal. When we got back I took a loooong bath in the bathtub… I feel soft… o_o My mother and I got thirsty so she sent me to find the vending machines, I found where they were supposed to be—apparently they tow them away when the sun sets. So now we’re sucking on ice cubes. I’m tired now, so I’m gonna turn the computer off. See ya tomarrow.
