it would appear that THC both protects[1] and is harmful[2] to the brain, preventing alzheimers yet capable of causing neuron cell death & other related side-affects. [second source] goes on to explain that certain anti-inflammatory substances such as aspirin or vitamin E protect against the neuroxtocitity of THC.
ginger root does the same thing as aspirin (almost Is the same)
"Neuron death induced by THC was inhibited by
nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, including indomethacin
and aspirin, as well as vitamin E and other antioxidants." [2]
