I'm sitting here, watching the newer Willy Wonka movie "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". I've never seen this monstrosity before. Especially going into it right after watching the original. It's dark depressing and all around what Tim Burton would have wanted for it. I love the director, but when it comes to a good movie like Willy Wonka, you're supposed to leave it alone. Johnny Depp isn't exactly the greatest person for this part either. He's a great actor that has made our dreams of pirates, demon barbers, and scissor wielding maniacs to life, but a Willy Wonka he isn't. Gene Wilder gave us the mental stimulation that we all craved as kids. Johnny Depp makes us never want to step into a chocolate factory EVER. For the love of god, he makes Michael Jackson look sane. This movie doesn't give us the strong character that the old one did. In this new adaptation, Wonka is just a victim of a cruel childhood. Not an eccentric funny chocolate maker. All in all, it's a horrible redo of the original. The old definitely beats the new in this case. Charlie & the Chocolate Factory gets a 2 of 5 in my book.
