From the back of his head, he remembered that Adam had always laughed at least once every day. He remembered that loud, joyful laugh as if nothing was wrong. But now Adam had changed. He didn’t laugh anymore, at least not more than a mere chuckle. Now he had gotten himself taken somewhere, probably an escort sent by Artemis.

This was not his plan though, to have Adam gone for who knows how long. He had not planned a gap in between Yukari’s training, nor had he planned that he would see the dragon again. The memory drifted into his head as if it were carried by a fast flowing stream.


Andrew remembered spending his first Christmas with Adam. He remembered the presents that he bought for him, how warm the fire in the fireplace had felt and the things Adam kept saying.

In one of his presents though, was different from the others. Inside colorful blue and white wrapping was a small, ice dragon, shining in the light. He picked it up gently and examined it.

“That dragon is made of the most concrete ice. It will not break under the pressure of three hundred pounds and will hold one message,” Adam explained.

“So it’s sort of like sending mail without the Queen’s Postage Stamp?” Andrew inquired.

“Sort of like that. If you ever need to send something, use this. Write your message on a piece of parchment and fold it as small as you can so it’ll fit in here. Remember that it’s crucial to write the receiver’s full name at the top and make it legible. Then tap the nose twice. The mouth will open. If you’re the one receiving the message, simply whisper your full name and the mouth will open up.” He paused for a moment. “It’s cool, isn’t it?”

Andrew nodded. That night, he took it to bed and composed a note to himself. He tapped the nose twice and placed the piece of parchment inside. Then he whispered his name and the mouth opened up.

“Andrew! Are you listening to me?” I asked.

Startled, Andrew fell over. He quickly got up and walked straight to his room.
