The Unknown 2
No Trust.
(Author’s note: this story is about there being no trust between people…there is a lot of explicit happenings so I warn readers not to read if they can’t handle this)
I was going up the stairs to Kasey’s room for her nightly bed time story when I heard the phone ring. I ran to the phone and picked it up. “Hello?” I said into the speaker. “...honey? I just wanted to see if Kasey was in bed yet. Is she?” My mom asked as worried as usual to call up and make sure I was doing my job right. “Yeah mom she’s in bed…she’s waiting for me to read her a bedtime story so I got to go bye.” I said and hung up walking back up the stairs. There she was waiting in her bed. “What story do you want tonight?” I asked sitting on the edge of her bed while looking through some choices of books. “Actually I was wondering if you knew the story…kids at school were talking about it because it was in the papers today.” She said eyeing me down. I gave her a funny look. “What stories?” I asked hoping she wouldn’t mention Kat and what I heard on the news about what happened. “The one about the girl who died in that dark place and she was found with her eyes blood shot.” She said. I widened my eyes. Why would she want to know this story? It was way too scary and I didn’t even like to be reminded about it because it was true and the fact that there still and was guardians of light and unknowns and invisibles and albino knights and such. She sat up and gave me her best puppy dog look. I sighed heavily and began. “well there was this girl who went to my school and she was a year above me, she would come in and tell people how she could see things and she even ditched class…well that’s what I heard…anyway…she got so insane that she started to not even show up and that was around the time when we had that huge eclipse…they found her in the dark room like how you said and that’s all I know.” I said trying to hide the fact that I was also in the room and remember everything clearly. She looked at me and then shrugged going to sleep disappointed. I got up and went to my room. When I got there I did the same old routine. Locked my windows, turned on every light, and got ready. I got into my pajamas and then looked out my window “Kat…I believe you…I know you weren’t crazy…I have it too…I know how you feel…and Andy and Mags? You guys are horrible and I hope I never see you.” I whispered. Just then my window became foggy and I backed up. The window was foggy and a screech came from outside leaving a huge mark on the glass. The lock flipped up and crawled in two people I just said I wouldn’t want to see. Mags had an evil grin and had a necklace that was an evil cat with her name on it. I backed into the wall and felt my knees go weak as I fell to the floor. “Why don’t you want to see us Ray?” Mags asked in a tone that said I would die no matter what the answer was. “I I know w what you did to Kat.” I stuttered. Andy shot daggers from his eyes at me. “What we did to Kat is none of your business nor is it the presses.” He said seriously. I looked at them both and then looked back at Andy. He glared at me. I stood up and then ran for the door. They chased after me and pinned me to the wall. Andy dug his nails into my neck and I was losing blood. I had to think and quick. I decided to take my thumb and push it to his lips. He squinted his eyes and I saw the skin of his lips crack and fall off. He started to bleed and let go of me leaving only Mags to chase after me in the street. I stood under a street lamp and saw her arrive from the shadows of the dark. Perfect…her name DID fit her. She walked up to me. “I hope you know the real reason your mother worries all the time.” I stared at her in confusion. “You always think it’s because she doesn’t trust you with your sister. The real reason is because your sister is sick and is going to suffer the same as Andy. She knew we’d come and that’s why she stayed away. She knows what we are what you are and what your sister will soon be.” I gasped at the way she said it. I ran away from her until I knew she left and walked home. I slept horribly that night and the next morning I went into Kasey’s room and found her pale with sweat on her body. I ran over to her and noticed that her eyes were a dull black. “Kasey! Kasey is you ok? How do you feel?” I asked obviously worried. She shifted her eyes towards my direction but her eyes seemed distant. “I guess…I guess this is what a serious illness feels like huh.” She said her voice becoming airy. I backed away as I saw her soul leave the lifeless body. She got up and walked to me. “Did I…did I just…die?” She asked confused. I nodded no and she let out a big sigh of relief. Then she looked at me. I looked over to her body and saw a black bony figure crawl through the window and into her body. She lifted her body and her hair was no longer the pale blonde it always was. It was red and her small body became smaller. I did not know that unknowns were able to change into something else as they entered a body unless it was just this certain type of unknown. Her dark blue eyes turned to a bright blue and I realized who she was taken over by. The little girl Nina. She started to giggle and I backed up. I looked in the corner of the room and found Kasey sitting there watching in horror. She got up and walked over to the new her. She took Nina’s hands and whispered to her. “Why…why would you do this to me Nina? I thought we were friends…I told people good things about you and they though I grew crazy thanks to you not helping me to prove you were real.” She said whispering so she wouldn’t cry. Nina glared at her and then opened her mouth to speak. “Kasey…I know you payed the price for something that was meant for others but now I can prove it because I have your body to do so.” She said and then smiled evilly raising her hand. Kasey’s eyes widened and before she could realize what was happening she was thrown into the wall. I could hear footsteps approaching the door and my mom opened the door gasping at what she saw. She walked in slowly and turned to me. ‘you…you…I told you to watch her and you didn’t do it.” She said poisonously. She walked towards me slowly and raised her hand. I backed into the wall as soon as I saw her red nails lacerate into my cheek. I felt the warm blood stream into my mouth as I tilted my head to the side. I looked up at her and saw that she was ignoring Kasey and went straight for Nina. I thought she would kill her but she hugged her and smiled at her. “Did she hurt you?” She panicked. Nina nodded her head no and they both looked at me and Kasey. “Get out.” They both said in unison. I grabbed Kasey’s hand and put her on my back as we jumped out of the window. “What’s going on Ray?” She whispered hoping not to cry. I looked at her and in a quick statement. “We’re leaving.” I said sternly. She walked behind me when I saw a dark figure shaking in the corner of an alley. I slowly walked towards it when I saw the face of which it was I cried, Kat. I ran to her and felt her cold body shaking…I looked at her and saw that her mouth on the side was stitched and her face was bruised, her hair was dirty and cut in all different places and she was smaller than she should be. I tried to pick her up but she screamed when I did. Her leg was broken. I tried to do it quickly but the stitch on her mouth opened up causing her to scream in pain even more as blood came down her neck. “C’mon Kat we got to get out of here.” I said trying to soothe her until she spoke and I backed off. “I don’t want to move from this spot…I’d rather die in a corner alone, than trying again.” She whispered through tears. “I need your help…KASEY needs your help. You know about this stuff and how to get a body back I don’t she needs her body.” I croaked. She whipped her head up at me and I saw that the eyes she had weren’t hers…there was blood coming down from them… “ What did you do?” I asked scared. She started to laugh hysterically and then answered between snickers. “I…I had my…my eyes gauged out….and I…I took someone…else’s!” she laughed again and then started to cry. She had something in her pocket of the ripped jeans. She pulled out a knife with dried blood. She messed with it and then on the back of the blade scratched in it, it labeled ‘don’t trust anyone, live for you not others.’ She looked up and started to laugh again. “you know…I used to always help someone with this stuff….but I’ve learned not to trust anyone and to just try and save my own life….not yours….not your sisters….no ones.” She whispered desperate not to cry and bring in memories that burned into both our skulls. “Kat listen to me…I was there…I know how you feel…this isn’t my real arm….” I said showing her the stitch on my arm to show that the arm skin tone was tanner than my own. She looked at it and lifted up the knife. I watched her closely to make sure she wouldn’t do anything until she waved for Kasey to come to her. Kasey slowly walked to her and sat down next to her. I thought I heard something so I walked out of the alley to see what I heard until I heard a scream from the alley that sounded like Kasey’s. I ran over to where she was and saw that her faint ghoul like body was thrown to the other side of the alley way covered in blood with Kat shaking huddled in a corner. I ran to Kasey and noticed she was no longer breathing. I started to cry and looked back at the now laughing Kat. I walked slowly to her taking the knife and threatening to slit her throat. She laughed again. “Do you really want to kill me? You need me. Admit it you little brat….the world is going to end with those creatures out there and it’s not like I did it to be mean….I saved her…I can save you too….we’re the only normal humans here that haven’t completely gone insane…people are committing suicide.” She whispered the last part. I started to walk off because I didn’t believe her when she yelled back. “FINE! DON’T BELIEVE ME! BUT WHEN YOU SEE THE DAMAGE OUT THERE AND SEE THE BLOOD THAT DRIPS FROM THEM AND THOSE…..THOSE…..THINGS! YOU WILL COME CRAWLING BACK TO ME!” she hollered while crying. I turned around to her and walked back to her grabbing her by the neck and lifting her to the wall. “Trust me on this….I’ve seen worse, I’ve done worse, and I’ve been through worse. Whatever is out there I think I can handle so if you want to come fine then but I’m not afraid to leave you here.” I whispered in her ear. She was quiet and then I let her go. I started to walk off and heard the footsteps behind me. We walked out of the alley and I saw something that was like the end of the world. There were people scattered on the streets with blood soaked bodies and there were faint creatures crying in old houses that were invisibles. They were unknowns guarding the doors like police making sure prisoners wouldn’t escape. I thought I was going to cry until I saw Kat take out the knife. “What are you doing with that?” I croaked. “There’s no way I’m going out there unguarded. And that long hair of yours is a distraction to them so cut it off so they don’t notice you as much.” She said. I gasped and then sat down in a corner letting her chop away at my hair. She got up and then took my hand to help me up.
We sneaked into an old house and there was a small family of three. It was a mother with two children. They were all looking out the window. The mother looked at us and then snapped up backing to the corner of the room with her children behind her. “W…what do you want? I d…don’t know what’s going on here…there’s weird evil monsters guarding the door and I can’t feed my kids.” She cried as I saw the children shake until one fell down. He fainted and then about 7 seconds later had a seizure. She started crying even more until I saw his body go limp. She cried harder and started to shake him. The other child cried in the corner and I saw as she too looked tired and sunk into a deep slumber that she could possibly not wake up from. I cried as I looked at the situation and Kat whispered in my ear. “This is what you got to get used to if you want to continue living like this you’re going to see so if you’re smart you’ll kill them both and let them be happy in heaven or whatever you believe and let them take care of Kasey.” She snickered. I took in what she said and she handed me the knife. I took it and walked over to the crying women. She saw the knife and started to panic until I slowly slit her wrist and saw her crying and becoming dizzy. I walked to the little girl and almost did until I broke down. Kat walked over and took the knife as I walked away to not look. She walked over to me a minute later and we left the house unnoticed. I cried silently and then spoke up. “How can you just kill them and not feel any sorrow or guilt?” I asked with my head down. She looked at me with her brown eyes she now had from the mother. “look….when you see a lot and you’ve been through a lot you kind of get used to doing it…don’t worry they don’t have to deal with further consequences for living as humans do” she said sincerely. I looked at an unknown and saw that the creature was talking to Mags…Eve. We both tried to get away but she saw us and grabbed us. “Well well well…Kat I didn’t know you survived and I didn’t know you made a friend either!” she screeched. We both got tense because of the sound and then Kat spoke up. “She’s NOT my friend I’m just helping her kill all you freaks who need to just burn in you know where!” She screamed. Mags clicked her tongue. “Oh Kat you never did like to swear.” She said softly. Kat groaned looked at her. “Where’s your lover Andy.” She spat. Mags gave her a look and then through her to the ground. “I killed him…he was trying to persuade me that this was way too out of our league and I killed him for it.” She laughed. Kat’s eyes started to water. I guess no matter how much she hated him she still felt the same feelings for him. “How could you? This IS out of your league…you’re not going to make an empire…you’re going to destroy the world!” she said crying. Mags smirked and then just walked off leaving us there to wonder what she was planning. We walked to a building and walked inside when we found more weapons consisting of guns and such. “Why would you say imp not your friend Kat…we were friends in school…” I trailed off when she looked at me. “We were childhood friends Ray…high school is when I met people that were noticed.” She said sourly. I looked at her and snapped at her. “Yea but at least I wouldn’t have betrayed you! You were so goody goody and you thought no one would see the dirt you put on people but you didn’t notice the flyers and posters because you were so absorbed in your own ego! I got beat up trying to tell others they weren’t true when they were!” I shot back. She stared at me and then softened her new eyes. “your right….you’re so right….I’ve lost so much….YOU’VE lost so much….we need to stick together through thick and thin…how did you get to the cellar that time…” she asked confused yet dazed. I looked at her longer and then opened my mouth but nothing came out…so I tried again. “I…I was walking and then something pulled me under….I heard someone scream so I went to the old house and that’s how I got there…Kat we need to get out of here and kill those things…there might be survivors.” I said concerned. “There is no survivors…we should just die right here…I wouldn’t be surprised If we went crazy.” She said seriously. I laughed a little. “It’s a little late for that don’t you think?” I said. I knew I was crazy now because so much has happened in just a day and I wasn’t waking up from this nightmare yet. She looked at me seriously and then looked around the room. “That’s not funny….especially since it’s not true….yet.” she said pulling out a gun from the box in the corner. I watched her as she loaded it with 2 bullets. I now understood what she was going to do with just 2 of them and I backed in to the wall as far as I could go. “Kat put the gun down now…I don’t want to die especially since there is still hope.” I said desperately. She walked closer and whispered in my ear. “There IS no hope Ray…we’re gonna die whether you like the fact or not….you can either die their way….slow and painful…or mine…quick and painless.” She said with acid pure in her tone. I started to cry as I realized that this was true and that all I wanted was for things to go back to normal and that I knew where I came from knowing now that my mom was really evil and that she wasn’t my real mom. I looked at Kat and she held the gun up to my hand wanting me to take it. I took it and instead shot her in the stomach. She stumbled back and fell to the ground on her knees. She looked up at me and looked disgusted. “If I knew you would kill me I would have just pointed it to my heart.” She said. I looked at her in disgust. Is this what I’ve drained down to? Laughing about cheesy jokes and shooting my friend? “How can I when you don’t have one to point it at” I said acid dripping in my tone. She looked at me and pulled out her knife. I watched her and before I could realize it I was falling from an instant pain in my leg. I looked and noticed she cut my leg open and I took the knife as I cut into her skin and tore it off putting it on my leg to stop the bleeding so she would suffer more than me. Just then she went quiet and slowly fell to the floor on her back. I kicked her before I left swearing under my breath that she was no good and I never should have trusted her. I walked out of the building holding the gun when I saw invisibles walking down the street in chains over to a red ditch in the ground. I ran over to see what it was when I saw that there were unknowns chopping them into bits and eating whatever they wanted. Unknowns would come out of the ditch with new body parts that were faded a little from being on an invisible. I snuck down into the ditch as I watched closely to make sure I wouldn’t get caught and I saw the cellar I was in last year. I walked in and saw the same scene I saw before only this time….Kasey was in there with her hair shaved off. I ran over to her and held her close as I cried. “Why….Kasey why did you go over to Kat” I croaked to the silent body. I heard someone coming so I hid beneath the bodies as I did last time. There was a girl unknown with Kasey’s hair who came in and took her body…I plunged at her so she couldn’t get it but she dropped her body and leaped for me. I fell to the floor and got a grip of her arm as I pushed my thumb into her temple seeing it crack and break off as the blood flowed freely and she slowly became limp. I got up and ran out of the cellar heading to the edge of the city. I took a grenade I found in the building and threw it after taking the pin off. I saw as me and the whole place of unknowns and invisibles blew up and we all died…
The End…
