Here is what the Bible says about Poor in Spirit. It isn't what you think it is. Read these scriptures and you will find out what it means to be Poor in Spirit.
Luke 21:3-4
""What I'm about to tell you is true," Jesus said."That poor widow has put in more than all the others. All of those other people gave alot because they are rich. But even though she is poor, she put in everything. She had nothing left to live on.""
What this says is that it's not about how much you put into God or Jesus, but it's about how much WORTH it is to God and Jesus. The widow put in two coins, which was all she had left to live on, she had faith in Christ that He would help her in time of need. The rest put in alot more coins, because they wanted to show how special he/she was and wanted to be seen as a rich man, it had no worth, because he could have been only a fraction of what he had back home. Just because you go to church, doesn't mean anything. Read this next one as well.
Luke 18:9-14
"To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everybody else, Jesus told this parable: "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men -- robbers, evildoers, adulterers -- or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.'
"But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, 'God, have mercy on me, a sinner.' "I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.""
Even though this tax collector was rich and was hated by many, he begged for forgiveness and wanted more from God and wanted more help from Him. The Pharisee didn't say anything about wanting, he bragged about himself saying he was glad that he wasn't like "robbers, evildoers, adulterers or even this tax collector." He didn't praise the Lord, he just said that he was better than everybody else that came to church, even the tax collector. Don't brag about yourself because you just do good things, more than everybody else, but if you admit that you have done bad things and want help from the Lord, then you will be brought up.
This is just something I learned from my adventure at the BBQ. I hope it will inspire some of you as well.
