A STORY I WROTE!!!
I stood there, my jaw clenched tight as my parents’ yell at me about my falling grades.
“Jack! Did you hear what I just said?” my mom yells at me.
I look her in the eye and shrug. She freaks. I’m 18 so she threw me a pair of car keys and old boxes and simply pointed to the stairs. I understood perfectly. She wanted me to pack my stuff and move out. I have my stuff packed as the clock in the living room chimes midnight. I stare out the window till sunrise. Once the sun rose I took my stuff and load it in our, well mine now I guess, black ford truck which are they keys my mom gave me.
First I drove to the bank and cashed out all of my college tuition money. Next I found an apartment for rent-by-owner. After much hassle he finally took the money and gave me the keys. I pulled all the boxes out and set them in the living room not bothering to unpack. I then went job hunting till I found one at a nearby grocery store as a bag boy.
A couple of months went by and I kept up with everything till one dreary day my boss came up to me during my lunch break to fire me for lack of enthusiasm towards the customers. After a month of not paying the rent I got home to find my clothes in a black garbage bag with a note on top which said,” you haven’t paid your rent for a month. Don’t bother trying to open the doors I changed the locks. Good luck.” swearing, I grabbed the bag and heaved it into the back seats of the truck. I spent most my days looking for a job and nights sleeping in my truck which was becoming my only companion. Finally, I got tired and dropped all my clothes and the truck back off at my old house. I found myself wandering aimlessly and constantly ending up at a ridge, at the bottom was the sea. I would come back here everyday and think about how my life got so messed up because I refused to work harder in school. Everyday I came back and hoped the ocean would take me with it, it never did.
Its been about a year now since my parents made me move out of the house. It was late at night when I finally made my way back to the ridge. I stared at it as I heard the clock from town strike midnight. Hoping my parents got the note, I jumped off the ridge and landed point blank on one of the jagged rocks I had noticed the last time I had come. Score one for me….
