Dear Journal,
I just now woke up. I am now in the bed of my "future" mother's bedroom. She told me I had been asleep for nine hours. I don't really know how I got in here. All I now is that she is trying to make an impression on me. Will I and my sister and brother still exist? Will she still marry George my "future" father? I then said, "I had a horrible nightmare, dreamed I went back in time, it was terrible." My mother then answered and said, "Well, safe and sound, now, good old 1955." My eyes widened. I was sure awake now. "1955? You're my ma- you're my ma." I said. She then said, "My name's Lorraine, Lorraine Baines." I then said, "Yeah, but you're uh, you're so, you're so thin." I was thinking of the mother I knew from 1985, she wasn't as thin as the one sitting next to me now! She kept on calling me Calvin, or Calvin Klein. She said that she thought that was my name because she had seen it written all over my underwear. My mom is really scaring me, I thought to myself. I then told her that I like to be called "Marty" instead of "Calvin." Her mom or my grandma, "Stella", called us down for dinner. As we went into the kitchen, my grandma said, "So tell me, Marty, how long have you been in port?" I answered and said, "Excuse me?" Stella then said, "Yeah, I guessed you're a sailor, aren't you, that's why you wear that life preserver." I then corrected her and said, "Uh, coast guard." Sam, my grandfather walked in. Stella then said, "Sam, here's the young man you hit with your car out there. He's alright, thank god." Sam then commented back and said, "What were you doing in the middle of the street, a kid your age." My grandma commented and said, "Don't pay any attention to him, he's in one of his moods. Sam,quit fiddling with that thing, come in here to dinner. Now let's see, you already know Lorraine, this is Milton, this is Sally, that's Toby, and over there in the playpen is little baby Joey." I went over to baby Joey, which is my Uncle Joey. My Uncle Joey is in jail right now in 1985. I said to him, "So you're my Uncle Joey. Better get used to these bars, kid." Stella then said, "Yes, Joey just loves being in his playpen. He cries whenever we take him out so we just leave him in there all the time. Well Marty, I hope you like meatloaf." I then said in a stuttery voice, "Well, uh, listen, uh, I really-" I really didn't want to stay for dinner. "Sit her Marty!" said my "future" mother. I went over and sat by her. Stella then said, "Sam, quit fiddling with that thing and come in here and eat your dinner." My Grandfather, Sam, was fiddling with the TV antennas. Because he wanted to watch TV while they ate their dinner. He then said, "Ho ho ho, look at it roll. Now we could watch Jackie Gleason while we eat." Lorraine, or my mother, then said,"Our first television set, Dad just picked it up today. Do you have a television?" I then said, "Well yeah, you know we have two of them." Then one of Lorraine's brothers said, "Wow, you must be rich." Then my Grandmother then said, "Oh honey, he's teasing you, nobody has two television sets." I then said staring at the TV, "Hey, hey, I've seen this one, I've seen this one. This is a classic, this is where Ralph dresses up as the man from space!" Then Milton Lorraine's brother said, "What do you mean you've seen this, it's brand new?" I answered back and said, "Yeah well, I saw it on a rerun!" Milton then said, "What's a rerun?" Then my grandmother then said to me, "You know Marty, you look so familiar, do I know your mother?" I answered back and said, "Yeah, I think maybe you do," as I looked at my "future" mother sitting right next to me. She then said, "Oh, then I wanna give her a call, I don't want her to worry about you." I answered back and said, "You can't, uh, that is, uh, nobody's home." "Oh," said Stella, "Yet," I said. "Oh," said Stella. I then asked, "Uh listen, do you know where Riverside Drive is?" Sam answered and said, "It's uh, the other end of town, a block past Maple." I then said, "A block passed Maple, that's John F. Kennedy Drive." Sam then commented and said, "Who is John F. Kennedy?" Then Lorraine said, "Mother, with Marty's parents out of town, don't you think he oughta spend the night, after all, Dad almost killed him with the car." Then Stella said, "That's true, Marty, I think you should spend the night. I think you're our responsibility." I then said, "Well gee, I don'r know." "And he could sleep in my room," said my "future" mother. I had a shocked look on my face. I then said as I got up from the table, " I gotta go, uh, I gotta go. Thanks very much, it was wonderful, you were all great. See you all later, much later." Then I raced for the door and got out of there. I ran toward Riverside Drive and found the 1955 Doc's house. I knocked on his door and he opened it. He peaked out. He had some kind of thing on top of his head. Must be something he invented I thought. I then said to him, "Doc?" He then showed me the way in and said, "Don't say a word." Maybe this Doctor Brown can help...
