Asylum A.

Mina was a very small town in Nevada. With a population of merely 261, it was a very desolate area. Each resident lived about 2 miles away from the next at least and kept to themselves. Miles and miles away from the nearest house was what seemed to be an asylum. Elongated barbed wire and electrical fences completely surrounded the structure. It was as safe and secure as a large prison and great lengths were gone through to ensure that absolutely no one entered the asylum and most importantly nobody left once inside. At more than 3 stories tall it loomed over the hill on which it was built. It contained over 3000 cells which resided in the top 3 floors. There also was a floor underground but its contents were unknown.
It was midnight and inside cell 1-294 a small frail forlorn girl lay on her side curled up in a ball trembling on the cold concrete floor. Slowly she opened her eyes and peered around seeing nothing but white walls. “Where am I?” she spoke out in a hushed questioning tone. Silence was all that answered her. As fear overcame her body she forced herself to stand, stumbling over to a steel enforced door. She looked out a small barred window in the middle of the door, which revealed to her thousands upon thousands of other rotten dank cells that reeked of blood as hers did. Panicked at the sight, she let out a loud and terrified shriek. Her voice echoed down the hallways and, to her misfortune, fell upon the wrong ears.
“Oh good. We have a live one.” He grinned, turning in her direction, and began to meander down the hall to answer her cries. The trip was a short one, for he had been waiting near by for his opportunity, pleased immensely with the fact that this time around he had been successful. “Oh dear child, what a pleasure it is to hear you awake. My name is Mr. Osearic.” Her heart raced with excitement as his voice met her ears. “Oh please, you’ve got to let me out of here!” She exclaimed. A smirk came upon his face. “In due time, my child.” “Oh please! I don’t know where I am but I know that this is a mistake. My name is Rivan Vanti, and last thing I remember I was with my brother, Paul Vanti walking around the streets in my home town of Welun.”
He didn’t grace her with a response, instead he took a key out of the pocket of his white overcoat and proceeded to insert it into the door. “Thank you so much, sir!” Her praise was cut off as she was quickly pinned on her stomach to the floor. He kept his knees jabbed in her back to ensure her immobilization as he yanked her right arm away from her, turning it sharply so the underside was revealed. “4 shots, I see. Well aren’t you a strong one? But not strong enough and lucky for me your brother isn‘t around to save you.” He kept a tight grip on her arm and dragged her screaming and squirming out of the cell and ignored her nails that she dug into his flesh.
Osearic brought Rivan to the end of the hall where he used a small rod he had kept hidden and inserted it into a small crack in the floor. He took a step back as a section of the floor let down into a caged elevator. He threw her inside and quickly got in himself. Together they descended into the underground floor. The poor girl was trapped and could not even conjure up enough courage to attempt an escape. She sat there in a corner of the elevator and awaited the moment when it would open. Seconds passed by that felt to her like hours as she held her breath. The elevator had finally reached bottom. He again firmly grasped her arm and lead her out into the facility.
Everywhere men and women in white coats rushed around. There was screaming in every direction but little Rivan could find no source. The walls were made of glass and the room smelled as horrid, if not more so, as the cells. There was only one emotion that it bestowed upon her and that was fear. “This way, my dear.” Beamed Osearic. Her feet were jerked in the opposite direction they were walking and she found herself stumbling into an examination chair and quickly strapped down so tight her circulation was cut off. “You will remain here for the time being. Now don’t get too cozy, you precious little thing.” Osearic said mocking her. “I promise you won’t be here long.” A laugh was all he left her with as he exited the room in which she now resided.
The man was correct though. As soon as the silence came it was quickly broken by a group of what seemed to be doctors that rushed inside. She screamed in pain as needles were inserted into her delicate skin and quickly they had her hooked up to a heart monitor. I.V.s containing a substance unknown to her flooded her veins and made her body burn. Helpless, all she could do was cry to the man who brought her to this torture room, Osearic. He watched her from outside the room. Osearic was standing next to another taller figure she could barely make out as her vision became blurred from the sedatives and various foreign medicines.
A nurse exited out of the room. “She is stable sir.” Reported the nurse. “Good.” The figure turned to face the man who stood beside him. “Very good Mr. Osearic. I see this experiment was successful. How many others have succeeded?” Questioned the anonymous man. “Only one sir.” Answered Osearic in shame. “Well then. Lets hope she’s just as promising as she seems. I don’t want anymore screw ups from you. Got it?” “Yes sir.”
Rivan soon passed out from all the pain. When she awoke she couldn’t even identify her own body. Nothing felt as if it was her own. As she peered down at her hands her eyes widened in fear. They weren’t hers, they couldn’t be! Her fingers were long and a sickening blackish color. Her nails had also grown a considerable amount. But, unluckily for her, those weren’t the only features that had changed. After hours of wriggling she was able to finally sit up, only to be horrified by her reflection in the glass wall of the room. Her eyes were pitch black and her skin looked dead, as if it could just start peeling and falling off. She looked like a feminine version of Frankenstein’s creation. “What have you done to me?!” She wailed and wept. “Brother, why aren’t you here? You promised to protect me! I hurt, big brother. Help me, please.” But her pleas were left unanswered.
Feeble Rivan sat there weeping until she had no more tears left. All emotion had seeped out of her body and she stared at the ground, bangs over her eyes as she awaited the inevitable. For the people to come back and take her away. They didn’t let her down. One by one they came back into her room and pulled out every wire. “The mutation is complete. She is ready for training.” The nurse notified Osearic. “Excellent.” Replied a very familiar voice. It was Osearic’s and again he gripped her arm, but this time she didn’t struggle. She was now too used to the feeling and she had lost all hope of escape.
“What test should we run on her first sir?” Another white coated fellow asked Osearic. “Lets see how good her reflexes are.” “I’ll alert them to start set up.” Osearic whistled as he lead her down a dark corridor that was dimly lit by a single hanging lamp. As he paused a door opened for her and she was quickly pushed and locked inside. They didn’t even allow her the time to become aware of her surroundings before they hit the button. Rivan is forced to evade every object that’s hurled at her.
First she’s pelted by small stone balls that shot out of the walls in every which direction. She managed to block most of them with her hands but the ones that make contact with her skin leave small bruises. Soon the objects got more frightening and harder to dodge. They paused for awhile but as soon as her guard was down they came at her faster and faster, slicing her skin, leaving permanent marks. “I beg you please just stop. Let me go. Let me go!” She screamed with the last of her breath as she used her immense nails to slice through the next round of objects that were hurled at her before passing out from exhaustion.
“End her session and return her to her room. I believe she now is more used to her modified body.” “Yes Mr. Osearic. Wait sir are you saying you think she’s ready for the next phase of testing? She is a promising specimen. She has the blood type that correctly altered the mutation, but she’s young and I don‘t believe she‘s strong enough to handle the next phase just yet.” “Are you questioning me?” Osearic said, irritated by the assistant’s words. “No, of course not. I just…” “You just what?” He snapped. “You’d do best to bite your tongue. Or I’ll feed you to the previous experiments of ours. Understood?” The assistant nodded in compliance as she opened the doors, easing the girl into a wheelchair, taking her back to her holding cell.
The black night sky was melted away with the shining sun. But even the rays of the sun were unable to penetrate those strong walls. Inside Rivan had no idea of the time of day. To her she was lost in never-ending night. Despite all her pain she soon drifted off to sleep where she happily dreamt of her brother. Together they ran through the fields laughing about absolutely nothing catching crickets and small butterflies like they had always done.
The young assistant returned to fetch the girl as she was told. She counted the cell numbers quietly to herself. “1-291, 1-292, 1-293, Ah, here she is 1-294.” She unlocked the cell. “Time for day 2 of your training.” She sighed and peered down at the surprisingly still little girl that laid before her. “I see you’ve learned your lesson about resistance.” The assistant said to Rivan with a frown. As she took hold of the girl’s small arm to pull her to her feet, the assistant yelled. “Mr. Osearic! Mr. Osearic come quickly!” His footsteps pounded on the concrete as he ran to the cell as fast as he could. “I’m sorry Mr. Osearic, but 1-294 was unsuccessful after all.” He sighed and took a deep breath. “What’s her time of death?” “She hasn’t been dead for more than an hour. I’d say about 9:18am?” “Log it. I’ll alert the boss.”
Osearic then returned deep down to the underground floor. He walked through mazes of corridors until he came to the final door quivering as he knocked. “Come in Osearic” He obeyed, taking a couple of steps inside, peering at the back of a chair in which his boss sat. “She died, didn’t she?” The man behind the chair said in a most poignant tone. “Yes,” he uttered. “I’m sorry sir.” Osearic said unremorsefully. Slowly the chair turned around revealing a man younger than Mr. Osearic. He appeared to be in his early twenties. “And here I thought my sister would’ve been the one.” He peered down at the scars in his own arm then looked back at Osearic. “For years we have tried and searched for the one person who could lead us to the new era. Genetically modified humans. I trusted you could find the gene and create for me the best army this world has ever seen, that would allow the United States to stay on top in power forever. I even gave you my own sister.” “I’m sorry sir. Perhaps if you’d allow me another try…” “No your tries are over. I have no choice but to shut down Asylum A.” Osearic couldn‘t hold it in any longer. He grabbed Rivan‘s brother by the collar of his shirt and threw him up against the wall. “The general never should have left you in charge in the first place! The only reason he chose you was because of favoritism. I was far more qualified but you were his son. Your whole family disgusts me.” Osearic brought his lips to Paul‘s ear. “You should have heard your sister’s pathetic screams when she cried out for you. It was music to my ears.” At the end of Osearic’s sentence tears flooded Paul’s eyes and he used all his strength to hurl Osearic away from him. “I have the power to shut this asylum down.“ Before Osearic could blink, he was shot right between his eyes, leaving him to bleed out on that cold concrete floor all his victims were so familiar with. “And I will.” That was the last act of cold violence that ever took place in Asylum A.
Asylum A was destroyed by a seemingly spontaneous nuclear explosion. No one in Mina took much notice but showed their remorse by turning the site into a graveyard for those lost in the explosion. A man visited the site every day and left flowers at one specific tombstone, Rivan Vanti‘s. His mind was haunted by all his past memories of the small little girl. He thought back to the first time they ever saw the asylum.
Butterflies used to fly all around the building. Rivan ran through the tall grass as she chased them, picking up the pace when she neared a tiny blue butterfly. The little girl tripped over her own untied shoelace and accidentally stumbled and fell into a patch of dirt. She cried. But nearby was her protector and he heard her calls and came to her rescue. “Are you ok, little sister?” Paul knelt down and gently kissed her scraped knees. “I am now big brother. Can we go home? This place scares me.” “Of course.”

OMG, you write pretty well yourself. 0_0
I like it, but then... it's really sad.

I actually cried a bit, at one point. sweatdrop

What a bone-chilling story, that her own brother would submit her to such treatment.
    *shiver*

I kinda get the feeling that this story is almost a fictional representation of something that happened to you, and the thought scares me...
    *shivers again*

Excellent writing, though. I can never manage to write quite like that. I'm only good at writing fantasy fiction that has a lot of conflict, but eventually ends well. xp
