My Big Brother
By: Michelle
Am I ever going to see your blue eyes again?
Will I ever see that crooked smile,
That always warms my skin.
I know you will be gone for a while
But when is it that you are to return?
Ever?
Please big brother,
Come home safe.
I watch you as you tell mom and dad
Goodbye
Then you turn to me and smile
I try my best not to cry,
But I can feel my eyes burning with my sorrow
You tell me to be strong
And you give me one of your fierce bear hugs
I see the tears slowly forming
In those blue eyes that I treasure
Why did you decide to go?
Oh big brother,
You told me I could handle this
But can I?
I don’t know
Just promise me one thing,
Please come home safe and sound.
I will want another of your hugs when you come
I tighten my hold on you
Then let go not knowing
If that might be the last memory I will have of you
You turn your back on me
And you walk down that long hallway;
That terminal
I will miss you so
Big brother.
