I looked into the blackness
something existed
hidden from us all


death was the ancient beast
we knew its hunger
since the first day


yet
something else
whispering behind the curiosity--
something concealed


as i search:
a whisper becomes a word
a word becomes a voice
a voice becomes a friend
a friend becomes the one


the one who desired me
before all the others
before death came loose


someone who fell in love first
who laughed with me
cried when i did
cried bitterly
at the darkness
between us


now
warmth and safety
the tears of joy in that embrace


the joy
for an eternity
bridged in the darkness
between us
