The last thing he wanted was pity. The last thing he'd ever want is someone's useless, degrading pity. You do not coddle the weak, you do not feel sorry for them. Wouldn't he be the prime of examples? Shouldn't he know? There is a resentment within him for those who are /still/ weak, /still/ being sheltered. Yet-- he demands it. He demands in his presence people are weak. He'll break them, bend them, erode them until there is nothing left of their defenses. Then he'll punish the weak, who he has broken. He will demand them be strong.
