One text.
A simple "hi".
She never texts him.
He doesn't know why.
She doesn't see
the throbbing pain.
The tears on his face
are covered by rain.
She doesn't know
he was about to die.
He was hurting
and didn't know what to reply.
His phone vibrated,
"How are you?"
He faked an "I'm fine"
but he knew it wasn't true.
Was there a difference?
Did it matter at all?
Could she feel his frown?
Could she feel him fall?
He was sitting in his chair
when the doorbell rang.
And there she was
standing in the pouring rain.
Arms wide open.
Tears still in his eyes.
What made her do this?
Why the surprise?
He texted he was fine.
He just didn't know what to do.
"That's why I came here,
I wanted to be with you."
Astonished and confused.
He couldn't help but smile.
A simple text
made her walk a mile.
She cared for him.
She saw his pain.
He needed her
that night in the rain.
He poured out his soul
to this fifteen year old girl.
She couldn't care
about anything else in the world.
She was there
hanging on to every word he said.
He was there
with her sitting on his bed.
He never could guess
what wouldn't happen to them.
They kissed
not knowing how this night would end.
She just stared in her eyes.
He did the same.
They couldn't hear anything,
not even the rain.
It was past midnight
and the covers felt nice and warm.
She fell asleep
right on top of his arm.
He just stared at the ceiling
thinking about his day.
How he was so upset.
And how she made it change.
In the morning
he won't know what to say.
But he fell asleep anyways with her
to the sound of rain.
