This is simply an assignment that I was assigned for my Foundations of Knowledge course. Obviously, it is about friendship.

Friendship
In your opinion, what is good friend? A good friend is many things, a sister or brother, a teacher,a role model, our own life sized diaryat times. Friends are supposedly the people that accept you for who you are, the people that can understand you best. For me, that is not the case. Every good friend of mine has changed me in some way. My friends don't really understand me. I don't really think that anyone really understands another. If I don't quite understand myself yet, how do I know that others do?Good friends are blunt, fair, and honest to the point that I began to look inside myself. They cause me to be a bit more introspective so that I can realize my flaws and weaknesses and try my hardest to fix them. Good friends make us stringer as a person--this is the change that I am referring to.
What does it take to be a good friend? To be a good friend, it takes a number of qualities and characteristics. It really depends on the person, for different people have different values and different definitions of a friend. In general, it takes respect, honesty, loyalty, and common interests. If someone does not respect you as a friend, you cannot expect them to treat you as their friend. If you cannot be trusted, people will lose faith in you as a friend and as a person. Loyal friends are true to your face and behind your back. I believe that it is good to have common interest with your friends too. I know that there are some people who are completely comfortable sitting with with their friends in silence but, for most young people, it is easy to become bored with people that we do not somewhat relate to or understand.
What type of friend are you? I try to be the type of friend that I want others to be for me. I am like the seatbelt of a friendship: steadfast, protective, practical, and trustworthy. A friend could depend on me more than I could. I admit that I am a bit clingy at times, but it is because I love my friends too much. I've been described as "an awesome friend" or "the perfect friend", but no one is flawless. I do try my hardest to be a good friend though. My name, after all, is my virtue.
What does it take before you are forced to end a friendship? - It takes a lot for me to end a friendship. For starters, I am very choosy about the friends I make. I am very well aquainted with most of the people that I choose to be around, but thaey are not all necessarily my friends. I am not very good a letting go. When my friendships end, it is usually a result of us growing apart and heading into new directions;however, if this is not the case, it is probably because of excessive lying on their part.
