Keeping my bokken held out in front of me, I cautiously take a step forward into the clearing. I shift my eyes to the left and to the right, looking our for sudden movements. There. I see a flash of white against the dark green foliage. Whirling around and raising my bokken, I let out a war cry and block my brother before his Bo staff has a chance to bop me on the head. He quickly swipes the wooden staff down towards my legs, but I jump quickly and use one hand to aim my staff at his head. He ducks at the same time I land, and we both spring away from each other. My feet sting a little when I land, but I ignore it and try to concentrate. I hear a bird call, and my ears twitch. My brother's eagle eyes notice my distraction. "Focus!" he says fiercely, gripping his staff tightly. We circle around the clearing, our feet not making a sound on the dirt ground. "Aiii!" he yells, and aims bokken towards my arm. I start to block, but suddenly, his staff isn't there. I'm swinging at nothing, and I feel myself falling to the ground with a thud. My back aches and I see stars before opening my eyes to see my brother laughing at me. He extends his hand and I take it, wincing a little as I stand. "You weren't expecting that, were you?" he asks, his dark eyes twinkling. I rub the back of my neck and pick up my bokken. "No, I wasn't," I admit. "Always expect the unexpected," my brother reminds me for the hundredth time. I roll my eyes sit down carefully on a rock nearby. "You did well today. Except for the fact that you were distracted multiple times," he adds. I feel my face grow hot. "I was only distracted once! And it was just a bird!" I exclaim. He shakes his head at me. "How do you think you fell, hmm? You were distracted. You didn't notice, but a cloud moth flew right in front of your eyes at the same moment I change my direction," he explains, walking back and forth. "But I didn't see it!" I blurt out. "Yes you did. You just didn't see it," he says, and starts walking away. "That doesn't make any sense!" I yell loudly. He whistles a tune and keeps walking. "Takeo! Chotto! Wait! That doesn't make any sense!" I yell again, and start to run after him. "Catch me if you can, Midori!" he calls behind his shoulder, and breaks into a run. I can't help but to chase him.
