Defining Happiness: USA/Belarus
Happiness.
Such a simple word to say, but what was the exact meaning? To congratulate someone on an achievement, seeing the smile on their face? To tell someone you loved them and be loved back? Or perhaps it was to watch from a distance.

For Natalia, it was none of the three. She'd never congratulated anyone, her beloved brother had never said he loved her once, and watching him from afar was much too stressing, nowadays.
It pained her to see him with others, especially that China fellow that Ivan seemed to have taken a liking to.

America, on the other hand, it seemed everything made him happy.
Food, his stupid ideas, making Arthur upset, everything.

And Natalia couldn't see why.

There was nothing to be found funny in any of those things, to her! What fun could it be to shove burger after burger down your throat and then yell out the most idiotic things?

For some reason...
She was jealous.

Jealous of his attitude, his carefree ways. And she never stopped being jealous of him.

One day, after the conference, America had approached her.
"Hey, Belarus." She stopped, and turned coldly to look at the idiotic smile on his face, staring directly into the blue eyes. The American didn't flinch, but simply laughed.
"Why don't you come with me to get a bite to eat?"
Alfred smiled charmingly at her, waiting for the response.

Was this a date of sorts?
Natalia slowly nodded, her expression as dark and icy as ever.
"Fine. But do not address me by anything other than my country's name. And do not try to make any moves on me. I am taking this as an act of kindness."

Alfred chuckled a bit. "Fine with me. Well, c'mon! Let's go! I know of a nice place real close by!"

The dinner had ended on a silent note. The two had left so that Belarus could go back to the hotel where she was staying for the conference.
Alfred slowly lead her up the hall to Natalia's room, bidding her goodbye at the doorway.
"We should do this again," He smiled, "It was fun."

Natalia nodded once again, most likely the upteenth time that night. Her icy gaze had turned somewhat softer. The two had been friends for years, now, but she'd never changed her demeanor towards him.

Until now, of course. Alfred had said some things that changed her perspective on him.
The American Revolution, for example. It wasn't something he talked of often, just when he needed to get it off his chest for a while. Usually it was to a closer friend, never Natalia.

Natalia was jerked back to her thoughts as the American leaned down, pecking her cheek softly.
"See ya, Natalia."

And he left.

Belarus couldn't do anything but think of what to tell her brother.
Perhaps...
Perhaps...
Perhaps she'd tell him she wanted someone new.

Or maybe she'd just tell him that she had found her definition of happiness.
