It's a online community of artists and those devoted to art. Digital art, skin art, themes, wallpaper art, traditional art, photography, poetry/prose and so on. It's a great place to showcase your own creativity and artwork. However what it's NOT is Photobucket or Flickr or Imageshack, etc. Too many people these days are using it as a image hosting website to put their webcam self taken pictures up. Most of those pictures that get submit are pictures that one would see on Facebook or Myspace. I also see people submit images/artwork that isn't even theirs. These pictures mostly consist of things that are copy and pasted from Google Images. It's nice that they want to "share" it but DeviantArt isn't the place to show it. Why? Because they did NOT take the pictures (or drew it themselves) or have anything to do with the contents of the picture. So they don't have the right to put it up. What's even more horrible is that these people get credit for it. It's sad, very sad. They get credit for work that they didn't even do. Art is NOT putting up a picture of some hot guy (or fanart or photograph or whatever else) that you got off Google and then putting it in DeviantArt. Again, you didn't take the picture, alter it, or have anything to do with the model in question. Point is, it isn't yours and it's basically stealing if you don't have the artist/photography/model or whatnot's permission. And according to the site, it's also against the rule to submit the image even if you give the credit where it's due and supposedly have the creator's permission. It's still not yours and should be left to the creator to submit their own artwork on the site themselves. Not only that, but I'm also sick of random tits, vaginas, asses, and penises in all their speckled webcam glory on the front page when I browse. There's art and there's trashy porn-like images. What sucks more is those people that defend their nude porn-like images by saying it's art and that their definition of it differs from one person to the next. Yeah right. It's easy to tell that their "art" has no thought put into them, not even an amateur nude photographer can take pictures as bad as those. Seriously, webcam? If they truly cared about photography and creating a master piece they would care about the lighting, the background, the positioning, the reason behind the image in the first place and taking the best picture they can before letting the whole world see. Not just booting your cell phone or laptop and taking a picture of your nude self in the bathroom or something. Now some people say, why don't you turn on the mature content filter? I would but I would be missing out on artwork that is tastefully done and those that would be consider "mature" but aren't. Even then some people forget to mark their work as mature and their nude images still show. Others say, if you don't like, don't look. That's bull. You can't control what shows up in your searches or what appears in the front page of what's the most popular. So, because of that I still see the images and it's not like I can predict what's going to appear and be able to unsee it. It just doesn't work that way. I can ignore it, which is what I do but again... The things that I said that bother me are a violation of the rules on DeviantArt. They shouldn't be on there in the first place.
