This is going to be a rant, just to warn you.
I am REALLY sick and tired of all these unscrupulous cosmetics companies telling people that it's ok to use UNSAFE COSMETICS "at your own risk". NO NO NO ******** YOU NO. You have a responsibility to your customers to provide them with safe products and proper ingredients information! If it's not approved for lip use, don't say "well, I use it all the time and it has never hurt me so use it at your own risk". SHUT THE FRONT DOOR! You tell your customers "this product is not approved for lip use". Don't try to play like that and act like it won't hurt them. PEOPLE HAVE BEEN HURT BY CRAPPY UNSAFE PRODUCTS. Not going to name any companies in particular here but they ain't hard to find.
There are shitty companies out there selling products CLEARLY NOTED on their supplier's page as "unsafe for _____" and not telling their customers the truth. Only after being outed on blogs and Youtube do they list that information on their sites. They try to play like they had that info their all the time or that the unsafe ingredient is just glitter when in reality it's dyes that can cause blindness and/or glitter that can cause corneal abrasions- i.e. CUTS ON YOUR EYEBALL.
Worse yet there is at least one company that sold people undiluted paint pigment as eyeshadow. Like the earthen pigments Renaissance painters mixed with eggs to create paint. Paint like you buy from freakin CRAYOLA! s**t that should not be anywhere near your face. Firstly, some of these pigments are not safe for use on the face/ eye area and secondly, pigments need to be diluted to be safe in general.
All I can say is research, research, research before you buy. There are some scary a** companies out there run by jerks just looking for a profit. They don't care about your burned and irritated eyes and medical bills as long as they make money.
I know I have been writing about a lot of less than stellar indie companies as of late but I still love the indie cosmetics industry. These dirt bags are few and far between but unfortunately it's like shark attacks. Sharks hardly ever hurt people but when they do it's generally really bad. Same here, our vision is essential and I don't think many people would willingly put it at risk if they new the real reasons why the ingredients are not FDA approved for use.
