Damien looked over the people in the crowd, pinpointing his companions in the corner of the establishment. All of them. Including the Weaponians, whom had recently learned how to morph back and forth between Human and Weapon form. He pushed out the others in his line of sight and focused on the person he was looking for. Celeste Leerman, his own Weaponian partner.
He and the rest of the group had stopped in a town to rest for the night and some of the more... energetic people wanted to enjoy themselves. They dragged him and the others from the comfort of their Inn rooms and into the streets. All throughout the night they visited the shops and other establishments the place had to offer before they decided to finish the night off here. The only restaurant in town. It was by sheer coincidence that the place offered patrons the chance to partake in karaoke.
In the span of an hour, everyone in the group had sung. Damien was the only one that hadn't leaped on stage and embarrassed himself with his terrible voice. Fortunately, or unfortunately in his case, the others had managed to pressure him into singing at least once. Wren was the one that settled the matter by reminding him that even he had taken the risk and sang on stage. And he wasn't the sort of person to partake in such festivities. He was easy to embarrass.
b*****d.
And that was the reason he was here now, standing on top the stage and looking out at the crowd. He was feeling insecure in front of all these people, though. The Lycanthrope could feel the small bead of sweat moving down his left temple as the people looked at him. His eyes looked back at his Weaponian partner and felt the insecurity die in seconds; the perfect song coming to mind. It was amusing for him to realize that Celeste helped him as much outside of battle as she did in battle.
"Hello," the raven greeted the crowd, his eyes dancing in excitement. An upturning of the lips left him smiling to match the look in his eyes. "I hope that you enjoy the song."
Damien was pretty sure that nobody had noticed him glancing at Celeste when he said that last part. He picked the song that was on his mind, feeling delighted as the song began to play when he reclaimed his position at the front of the stage. A few of the patrons looked at him in surprise. It was evident that they hadn't expected to hear something from out in Isshun. Not that the youth could blame any of them.
Confident, he pushed that thought aside and leaned forward. He was at least two inches from the microphone as he began to sing.
... she rolled in from the west
in a summer sun dress
hotter than the heat in July
with her wind blown hair
it just wasn't fair
the way she was blowin' my mind
have you ever noticed
every hurricane gets its name from a girl like this
she's a cat. five kind
keeps you up at night
hangin' on to the edge of a kiss
He pulled away for a scant few seconds to reclaim his lost breathe. The poor lad looked far more relaxed now that he was getting into the song, occasionally locking eyes with the some of the people in the establishment. Quite a few of the women looked away with evident blushes on their faces. It was enough to fuel his confidence as he leaned forward once again and picked up where he left off.
she's a beautiful mess
the kind you love to love
but what happens next
i got a feeling when the sun comes up...
The crowd was strangely silent as they watched him. It could've been the accent. It was most likely the accent. He was speaking fine in the beginning but had taken to using the accent for the second verse. The accent that he'd thrown away in his freshman year of high school.
i'm gonna wish i had a storm warning
i'm gonna wish i had a sign
i'm gonna wish i had a little heads up
little leeway, little more time
some kind of radar system
locked in on love
i got a feeling by the time the night finds the morning
i'm gonna wish i had a storm warning
i'm gonna wish i had a storm warning
Celeste was focusing on him by this point.
ain't it funny how it feels
when you're burning your wheels
somewhere between goin' and gone
you get so lost that you can't turn it off
you give in and just turn it on
she's a heart full of rain
red lips like a flame
she's the girl from your favorite song
what a beautiful mess
one part angel, one part perfect, one part brick
the kind of flood you'll never forget
Damien was as relaxed as he could've been at that point, a playful smile on his face. A nice change of pace from his usual understanding and tender smiles. He placed his hand over his heart and closed his eyes, leaning back slightly as he started the next part of the song.
i'm gonna wish i had a storm warning
i'm gonna wish i had a sign
i'm gonna wish i had a little heads up
little lee-way, little more time
some kind of radar system
locked in on love
i got a feeling by the time the night finds the morning
i'm gonna wish i had a storm warning
ooo, yeah
i'm gonna wish i had a storm warning
i'm gonna wish i had a sign
i'm gonna wish i had a little heads up
little lee-way, little more time
some kind of radar system
locked in on love!
i'm gonna wish i had a storm warning
i'm gonna wish i had a sign
i'm gonna wish i had a little heads up
little lee-way, little more time
some kind of radar system
locked in on love
i got a feeling by the time the night finds the morning
i'm gonna wish i had a storm warning
i'm gonna wish i had a storm warning
i'm gonna wish i had a sign
i'm gonna wish i had a sign
or a storm warning
He was exhausted by the end, stumbling backwards. The song finally stopped playing in the background and left the restaurant bathed in silence. His feeling of insecurity was returning before the crowd erupted into furious applause. He was both shocked and happy about that as it meant they enjoyed the song. Good. It wasn't the wrong choice to make, then.
His eyes lurched toward the form of his partner and found out that she was staring right back at him with a interesting new glint in her eyes that wasn't there before. They locked gazes and he abruptly turned away, a flush on his cheeks. A triumphant smirk covered her face and the blush deepened as he realized something important. Something that he was not expecting.
He was crushing on Celeste and she knew... she knew and she was interested.
