We all know that girls play games. They play hardcore games, casual games, strategy games, adventure games, fighting games, mind games, roleplaying games, etcetera. But can those who spend their time taking pictures with game related items and so on, stop with the “gamer girl” or even “girl gamer” nonsense? Heck, could all girls who refer themselves as that please stop?
There’s no need to bring gender into a gaming world where skill is what determines essentially who you are. Girls who play video games don’t deserve any kind of special treatment as opposed to anyone else. If you really wanted equality you wouldn’t try to differentiate the word gamer. It’s completely unnecessary to even announce your gender, just as it is unnecessary to announce what race you are or your sexuality.
It should NOT matter at all. It doesn’t matter if you’re Asian, African American, Hispanic, European or whatever and like to play video games. Nor should it matter if your gay or lesbian and whatnot. Gender is the same thing, it shouldn’t matter if you’re a girl playing a video game. It makes no difference in the gaming world because what actually makes an impact is if you’re talented at that game.
It just makes so much sense to just call yourself a gamer. It’s no one’s business to know if you’re male or female, if you’re gay or not, etcetera when you’re playing video games. That’s why I have an issue when females that call themselves “gamer girls” and “girl gamers” because it’s unnecessary.
