My Journey for a Devil Tail
What's so frustrating about questing one? For me, it initially was the lack of support. I have kicked myself many times as to why I never quested the devil tail so long ago. I wanted one many years, but decided to get serious about it in May 2012. To prove my seriousness, I decide to start my first devil tail quest thread. By selling a few of my stuff, coupled with my current gold on hand, I was able to start the quest with 2.8mill. It's not a lot but it's a start somewhere. The thread was to show how dedicated I was in accomplishing this epic quest. My goal was to do it without sacrificing my rare items, but it seemed like nobody else cared.
When I created my quest thread, called "A TALE OF A TAIL™", it opened on the exact same day another Gaian, I will call "P" opened his quest thread. He was questing panda items worth only a few million. Both of us didn't have any banners, just the two of us bumping our threads. But what was disconcerting was he started to get one poster saying "good luck", then another, then another, then all of a sudden it was no more bumping, but instead it evolved into a hangout spot. He was running bump contest prizes, but so was I. Before I knew it he had about 1500 posts, while I was struggling to bump mine to 50 alone. He was kind enough to stop by my thread to give me encouragements, coming in every so often to give me a bump or two. I couldn't figure out why my thread received no love but his did. He heard my frustrations and suggested a new banner by the same person who made his.
So, I took his advice and paid lots of gold for a not so good banner. It was much smaller and didn't fit with the theme of my quest. The only good part about it was it was animated, but it was pink and had snow falling. How does that translate to a devil tail quest? It doesn't and it didn't help getting people in my quest thread to even say "good luck."
After lurking in other quest threads, it finally hit me. It had nothing to do with my quest name or me. It was what I was questing that made people easily overlook me. There has been many devil tail and angelic halo quests where individuals inevitably give up and fail. Many people thought I'll most likely suffer that same fate, so why support someone who won't get far in her quest? But, I was determined to change that perception and everyday I bumped my thread. "P" eventually abandoned his quest thread and for good reasons. He was left with less gold than he started with due to his bump contests. Yes, he got the popularity of his thread, but he wasn't receiving the help he needed to get his items. As for me, I'm still standing.
Finally, all those bumps started to pay off as people began donating to me little by little and my thread officially gets the "popular" title. That shows me people are believing in me and rooting me on.
9/11/2012: I reached 30 million gold! Half way mark. I still refuse to sell my rare items to boost me by another 25-30 mill. I can do this.
11/24/2012: I certainly can do this and I did. I finally purchased my devil tail! At the moment I feel more relieved than excited because this journey was very long and very frustrating for me. Many days I had no desire to even try to make gold to put toward my quest. I must say getting a few items from Black Friday propelled me in getting enough gold to make a good offer. After 2 vendors wanting me to add more to my offer, I'm glad I refused and stuck to my original offer because it paid off with another vendor accepting that offer! It feels good to be officially retired from questing. c:
I must thank all those Gaians who donated to me during the course of my quest. At the time I opened, which was May 06, 2012 till I purchased my d-tail, I have received over 16 million in gold and items. Thank you lovely people for being so kind. As promised, I look forward to giving back and opening my very first charity.
