In this dream…
I wake up to find that the whole world is different. Everyone has just disappeared and every street, store, house and whatnot have been abandoned with no signs of life. Even the animals are gone and the only sound is that of what I make.
I explore my neighborhood in hopes to find what’s going on and to hopefully come across other person. But all that I find is signs that people suddenly just vanish. I see cars with keys on them but the engines have die from being left on for a long time. Car doors left hanging open and many cars left on the street in a perfect row, obvious signs of waiting at a red light.
I see some purses, shoes, sunglasses, glasses, bookbags, broken glass, dark stains and spent bullets on the ground. The scene appears as though people were going about their business and were suddenly attacked, vanishing.
The phones, the television and the internet were dead. The electricity and water seem to be working for the moment but I knew that they would die soon. So I made sure to make use of them while I still had them. I filled the tub and as many buckets, pans, and whatnot with water. Then I gathered all the unused batteries into a pile, got all the flashlights and candles together. While I did that I plug in a radio in hopes there was someone trying to reach out to people. I even carried around a regular walkie-talkie to see if I could reach anyone in the area. But realistically I knew I had to get to the police station to get a GMRS walkie-talkie because it’s used by the military, firefighters, search and rescue operations and police officers.
I would have a better chance to communicative with people with it then a regular one. As a week past it was becoming more apparent that I’m alone and need to focus on my survival. The electricity went out which alerted me that I need to get more candles, matches and batteries. I also needed food and other supplies. So I went to a near by drug store to get nonperishable food.
Three weeks go by and I stocked up a room in my home filled with food and supplies. I also manage to get to the library using a bike. I figured it would help me a lot if I had survival books for any type of situation (if it’s winter how to stay warm, what to do if I get hurt, which plants are safe to eat, how to build a weapon, how to grow food, etc.)
Two months have passed by. I establish a routine and I’ve come to learn that I’m not truly a alone. There were other people who are in the same situation as me, being completely alone in their own city. Some people decided to join together (stronger in numbers) but others are warily of leaving their area for a place they have no knowledge on and trusting strangers. I happen to be one of them.
As I listen in to people communicating. I learned that there was a loud bang and then a flash before people vanish. Some said they saw people being attacked by weird creatures, aliens before they disappear.
Five months have gone by. I’ve spotted a couple of the creatures they mention. I studied them. They looked like they were once people but turned into slave or aliens themselves. They reminded me a lot of zombies, they way they mindless walked around, bumping into cars and lamp posts. They didn’t have much intelligence, not able to open doors, walk around objects. After a week of laying low they wonder further away from me.
By then I started a journal, I kept tabs of what happen and what I’m doing to survive. I have no reason to do that but it gave me something productive to do at the end of the day. It also kept me sane, not letting my mind wonder to how lonely I am and when or how I’ll die. With the journal I was focus on sharing my thoughts and knowledge I gain from the situation. I felt the need to document it all.
It’s been ten months. Since then I’ve encountered the alien creatures and I was correct in my educated guess that they lack intelligence. They are hostile, trying to kill me but I have the upper hand. I found guns and kept one with me at all times. I also kept a melee too if I ever ran out of ammo or for whatever else reason. They instantly die when shot in the head. They don’t try to eat you, they try to claw you to death. They are slow but have strong arms and hands so you have to be careful to not get in their reach. Their eyesight is poor but they can hear you if you’re making too much noise. They are mostly dangerous in numbers but mostly they can be easily avoided.
I also ran into another person. A teenager and he, well the both of use were surprise to see each other. It was obvious that were were surviving on our own and at first we were hesitant to trust each other. But we made an effort to get a walkie-talkies with a private channel so that we could stay in touch and get to know one another. It allow us to learn that we really are alone and have no twisted intent for other survivors. Since we all know that there are sickos out there that take advantage of disasters.
In the end, he moved into my homebase because it was a lot larger, safer and in a better location. We were less paranoid now that we didn’t have to be on our toes 24/7 and weren’t alone. We watched each other backs, surviving was a little more easier and we made the best of it.
That was the end of my dream.
