Dying to Be Alive : Chapter Two
Scarlett swayed across the crowd of dancing beings. She moved quickly. "Elenore. Come with me, dear." She called behind her. Elenore looked to Despair who was sitting next to her and laughing psychotically. She slowly stood up, keeping her eye on the strange man. "Is Despair really your name?" She asked. Despair looked up at the girl, grinning widely. "Oh, of course not. Scar named me that when we met." He explained. "I can't remember what I was called before I met her. Even if I did, I probably would like Despair more then my true name." He told her. Elenore nodded before running across the crowd and joining Scarlett. "What is it?" She asked. Scarlett looked down at her, smiling softly. "I want to teach you how to cast spells." She quietly said. "Humans can do that?" Elenore asked, confused. She looked down, watching her feet as they walked. She had forgotten to wear shoes. Surprisingly, she didn't fall when she ran across the ballroom floor. Scarlett sighed softly. "Of course they can. Anyone can with enough practice." She said. "There is a human man in another kingdom who is a master at spells." She told Elenore, looking at her. "You can also master it, if you try hard enough." Elenore nodded, not saying a word. She thought it sounded quite fun. Scarlett opened a door and moved aside for Elenore to enter. Elenore walked in, smiling at Scarlett. She sat in a chair. Scarlett sat in the chair across from her, looking at the door as Despair walked in. He hugged Scarlett, rocking her back and forth. "Don't leave me with the dancers!" He said. Scarlett giggled, looking up at him. "Why? Don't you enjoy to dance?" She asked. Despair nodded. "But, not without you." He mumbled, kissing her on top the head. Elenore watched, eyes heavy. She laid back, closing them for what she thought was a second.
Elenore woke up, seeing that Scarlett and Despair was gone. She stood up, walking to the door, peeking outside. The dancers were all gone. The music was still playing, though. But, quietly. She walked out, closing the door behind her. "Scarlett!" She called. "What is it, dear?" Scarlett asked, coming in from a door way leading to a hall. "How long was I asleep?" Elenore asked. "Mm...about an hour or two." Scarlett said. She sat on the stage, laying back. Elenore walked over, leaning on the stage. "I should probably get going now. My mom is probably worried." She yawned. "I'm really tired..." She mumbled. Scarlett sat up, nodding. "Yes. You should. Take my hand." She put her hand out for Elenore to grab a hold of. Elenore did so and the room started to descend into white this time. They were now in her bedroom. Elenore walked to her bed, sitting on it. "Thank you." She said. Scarlett walked over to her, kissing her on the forehead. "I'll see you soon, dear." She said and disappeared. Elenore smiled, laying in her bed and flipping over to her side, pulling the covers over herself and falling asleep.
Despair laughed, sitting at the dining table of they're home. Scarlett smiled. "How is your meal, father?" She asked, looking over to a black haired man next to her. "Mm. Good." The man said. "A few complaints, though." He said, glaring at the laughing Despair. "Daddy..." Scarlett said, pouting. "It's not his fault he's mad. He was born with that trait." She said, smiling sweetly at her love. Despair sighed, finishing. He smiled back at Scarlett, blowing her a kiss. Scarlett slightly blushed. "So sweet." She mumbled. Her father shook his head. "Insanity isn't a trait. At least, not for humans." He said, stuffing another fork full of food into his mouth. Scarlett sighed deeply as Despair started to laugh again. "You really are rude, Father." She told him, looking at him again. Despair stood up, walking to Scarlett and hugging her, moving her back. He bent over her, kissing her passionately.
