Again?
Yep, I did it again. Entered the Avatar Arena, that is. Thanks to those who already voted. heart
What can I say? I love the fish helmets. ^^; And I'm wearing the same boots as last time. I got a lot of nice compliments while I was wearing it, so I thought I'd give it a shot in the Arena. Wish me luck. wink And thanks in advance to voters. heart
In sickness
Just after I finished my exams, I came home and got sick. And I promptly got lectured by my parents for getting sick. They always do that. xd It's always hard for me to swallow the line: "Don't be so selfish! Why did you have to go and get sick so that you'd go and spread it to the rest of the family? You always cause so many problems." Right. Like I did it on purpose. confused And I'm rarely sick in the first place.
So yeah, I'm one of those people who avoids telling my parents that I'm sick. <_< I woke up with a sore throat, which I didn't end up telling them about until after lunch. They, of course, were mad. So I went to take a nap and woke up for dinner. But I took a couple whiffs of dinner (it was barbeque) and then I went to the bathroom to give the toilet my lunch. xd But then I felt 100% better, so I ate some salad. I think it was the meaty and sauce smell that made my stomach twitch. Anyway, a couple of days later I have a cough and a headache, but that's about it. 3nodding
Anime Convention(ish)
Awhile back, my nerdy school held a mini anime convention. xd So I had to go. I've never been to one before. Mostly I went for the dealer's room. ninja They had anime showings and panels as well, but I didn't have much time (I had a lot of stuff due that week) so I just watched "Voices of a Distant Star".
Voices of a Distant Star
I still can't believe it was produced by one person on an iMac. It's pretty much up-to-par with big studio productions. It's a futuristic drama about two grade school students who just graduated. A boy and girl, they spend a lot of time together. The girl gets called away on space duty to fight aliens in neighbouring solar systems, and she can only communicate to Earth by email. She sends emails to her friend, but they take longer and longer to get to him. Moreover, she ages differently than him due to her being in space. She's still fifteen, and he ends up being something like 27. But she still sends him emails. It's heartbreaking to see the message "It will take nine years to send this message to Earth" on her cellphone. I'm still not sure about the ending, but it's a very sad and touching "what-could-have-been" story that focuses on the "what-we-have-instead" aspect. Highly recommended. 3nodding
The Dealer's Room
I ended up almost cleaning out one store (and, subsequently, my wallet). <_< Well, not really. There were a few local anime stores there as well as some doujinshi and regular artists. (One of the artists looked very Gaia-ish. I mean, her art could have easily been in Requests and Commissions. But I was too shy to say something like "Do you go on Gaia?" xd ) And, strangely, a woman selling pocky and other goods. And a couple of booths selling various paraphenalia that I could probably get elsewhere.
Anyway, I ended up buying Volumes 2-4 of Haibane Renmei...for $5 each. *dies* heart _ heart It's a very good series. But I'm so angry that they didn't have the first volume. Now I have to pay upwards of $40 (Canadian) for the first volume. That's more than double what I paid for the other three. mad
Then I bought manga Volumes 2 and 4-8 of Fruits Basket for $10 each. Retail is just under $15 (Canadian). They were missing Volumes 1 and 3. ;_; But I've watched some of the anime series, so I already know what happens in the beginning. But I still need to get Volume 1. I went to the bookstore to get Volume 3 (Kyo! He's my favourite character whee ), but they only had one copy of Volume 1, and some of its edges were bent. I'm pretty meticulous about my books; they have to be in good condition when I buy them. So I'm still missing Volume 1, but I've so far only read Volumes 2 and 3. It's very good so far. heart
So I spent a lot of money there. And I consider myself a relatively frugal person. >_> But for the record, I had long ago decided to own Haibane Renmei, and somewhat more recently decided to own at least some of Fruits Basket. So technically I was saving money if I was going to get them eventually anyway. I just wonder if I had gotten there earlier, maybe the missing volumes in my collection would have been there. >_<
O_O
I just had to put this in. One of my professors is crazy. On my final exam, he had a bonus question. Basically, he wanted to know if his hypothetical movie about the course subject (which of course had nothing to do with anything) would win an Oscar. He described the trailer (in words, and complete with a list of actors and music performed by various artists and a lot of random crap) and asked us if we thought it would win. The thing is, he said the trailer would be done in anime style. So I put my two cents in and responded in kind with random crap. (I had lots of time leftover to write up a response as ridiculous as the question. wink ) And, apparently, I had one of the best answers. eek xd After he had marked them, he sent out a class-wide email and mentioned my name (amongst two others) who had the best responses to the bonus question. Wow. Just wow. I almost fell off my chair when I read the email. I'm honoured to be considered almost as crazy as he is. rolleyes heart
