Chapter 3
What if Shiro was right about the Guardians protecting the world and Aleana just didn't know it. Then would this journey that she's going on pointless? Another question on her mind was how could she find the Guardians when she doesn't know what they even look like. How would she know when she found one? All this was running through her head. The girl woke early in the morning not knowing what to do. Well, first things first, she thought, I got to pack supplies for my journey. Aleana walked to her closet and dug through it. She found a medium sized bag. Not too small, yet not too big. "Perfect but what do I put in it?" she asked herself. "Food of course but what else? That's right I also need clothes." Aleana grabbed three pairs of clothing and made three sandwiches then set them in the bag. "Okay all done. Now what else?" The girl walked in the kitchen and flopped onto a chair. She examined the room she was in. She went to the cupboard and pulled out a piece of paper and began searching for a pen or a pencil. Once she found what she was looking for she scribbled some words on the paper.
Dear Shiro, I don't know if I can do this but I'll try. I need to find the Guardians. I have to. What if I don't find the Guardians, what do I do? Shiro, you have to protect the city while I'm gone. I don't want anyone else to die. One day I'll come back and when I do I want to see the village and everyone in it as it was when I left. I really don't know what I'm getting into. But my family was lost because of the Guardians didn't bother to save them. I hope I see you again Shiro. Love, your best friend, Aleana P.S. Why'd you talk me into this?
She left the paper on the kitchen table and went out the front door. She took one last look at her home then started to the forest in the west. Thus the girl of the age of fifteen began her journey. Now of course the girl was scared out of her wits. In fact, every step she took she trembled. The wind crawled through the limbs of the trees. This made the poor girl even more frightened. It felt like someone behind her was whispering in her ear. She looked over her shoulder every now and then but no one was there, or maybe there was. She swore she say something off in the distance. Oh well, she just shrugged it off and continued forward. "It's nothing,” she would say to herself. Every time her feet moved to take the next step she regretted. She wanted to do this journey, yet she didn't. I forgot something, she wondered, but what? "Good. Now all you need is your sword,” Shiro said. "What's the sword for?" "For protecting yourself of course.."
Ah! The sword! How could she forget? Aleana looked behind her shoulder and sighed. "Too late to turn back now." The girl sat under a tree and took a sandwich from her bag and started taking bites out of it. She looked back in forth in boredom. Once her snack was finished she went back and pursuit. It's been at least three hours and Aleana has been walking without rest. Every now and then she would moan and complain to herself that her feet hurt. The time was sometime in the afternoon and the sun beated down on the girl. Her hair was damp from the sweat on her forehead. She raised her hand over her eyes and looked up at the sky. The sun it's so bright, she thought. Then she fainted. In the middle of the thick forest. With no one in it...or is there? A stranger came out from behind a tree and stared at Aleana. He knelt down beside her and felt her forehead. He stared a little longer at her until her picked her up bridal style and started walking to the place where the girl was desperately looking for. Aleana woke up in a bed with the covers on top of her. She examined the room she was in. The room had red walls and a dark red ceiling with a fan and a mini table with lamps on it. The girl quickly sat up and grabbed her head in pain. "Ah, I got up too fast." She then found her bag sitting next to her on a small table. She took a hold of it and walked out of the door. In the hallway there were lots of other doors with numbers on them. Aleana walked down to the lobby and went towards the main desk. "Um, excuse me," she said. The woman at the desk glanced up at her and pushed her glasses up to the bridge of her nose. Her brown-grayish hair was up in a tight bun and her age would have to be in the mid-forties section. "May I help you?" the woman asked. "Yeah. Um, where am I at the moment?" "City, country or building?" "City and building please." The woman scanned Aleana's face. "The city we're in is called Cillian. Right now you're in the Peaches Hotel." The girl's face lit up and her smile covered her whole head. "Thank you," she said and headed towards the main exit. "Young lady!" the woman called. Aleana turned around. "Aren't you going to sign out?" "This might sound crazy to you, but I don't remember walking in here." The woman nodded. "So you're the girl Amory brought in here. All right then. It's almost midnight; so why don't you go back to your room and get some more rest. I'll see you in the morning." "Okay. Ma'am, what's your name?" Aleana questioned as she went back to the desk. "My name is Kaitlyn. Nice to meet you--" "Oh, I'm Aleana. Well, I guess I should go back to the room now." The girl walked down the hall and went back into the room where she came from. The morning at last came, and the sunlight beamed through the window waking Aleana. She pulled the covers over her head to block the light. "It burns..." she moaned. She got out of the bed and did the normal morning routine. She then went out in the hallway to the front desk. Kaitlyn was sitting there typing on her computer. The woman looked up at the young girl and said, "Good morning, or should I say good afternoon." "Good afternoon? What time is it?" Aleana wondered. "It's 1:30 P.M. I was worried you wouldn't get up. So what do you want to do? This hotel has a pool with a hot tub if you want to check that out." "A dip in the hot tub sounds nice. But I'm afraid I don't have a swimsuit with me." "There are some swimsuits in the gift shop." Kaitlyn pointed to the glass door to her right. "If you want to go in there and look for something you're very welcome to do so." "Thanks." Aleana strolled into the shop and browsed through the swimwear. There was a blue bikini that caught her eye. The design on it was beautiful eye stunning pink roses. The girl took it off the rack and went back to Kaitlyn. "I like this one," she said. "Yes, it's very nice. It cost $20.00. Do you have that much money in your pocket?" "No, I don't." Aleana stared at the swimsuit in a sad awe. "Okay, you got me. I'll pay for it. Now go change and the pool is down the hall and to the left." "Thank you so much!" The girl ran back to her room and quickly changed into her new clothes. She soon came back out to show Kaitlyn how she looked in that fantastic swimsuit. "Ta-da!" "Wow. It's gorgeous on you," Kaitlyn complimented. "Thanks again, Kaitlyn. Well off to the pool!" Then Aleana ran off down the other hallway. She opened the door to find the pool huge! Little kids were splashing their mothers at the shallow end and older kids going down the waterslide. Aleana scanned the area searching for the hot tub. She spotted it in the far right hand corner and started marching in that direction. She took a step in the warm bubbling water and moved in the corner. "Oh, this feels so nice," she said while closing her eyes. "I can make it hotter." a stranger said. The girl opened her eyes and turned her head to look at the man also in the hot tub. He had dark brown hair with blonde highlights that nearly went past his eyes. His eyes were golden yellow that you could die for. "What?" Aleana questioned. "I can make the water hotter." "You're a black mage?" "Yeah. Want to see?" Without waiting for an answer he pointed his finger to the ceiling and casted a chant, then the small tub began to bubble. "Whoa..." Aleana replied. "I can make it hotter even." Again he did a chant and the girl perked up from the surprise of the heat. "I could make it hotter but then I'll have to use a stronger power of magic, but that might burn you. I mean, I have to be polite to a girl. I don't want to hurt her." Aleana gave him a soft glare. "Oh really? Well, why don't you try and see if it hurts me?" "Very well. Don't say that I didn't warn you." The man said another chant but this time it was longer than the others. As soon as the bubbles began to raise, Aleana could feel the water becoming hotter. He was right it did hurt. She climbed out of the tub and stared at the man still in it. "How can you stand that?" she asked. "I am a mage, so I can stand my own magic." "Who are you?" "I'm Amory." The girls eyes grew wide. "You're the person Kaitlyn was talking about. She said that you brought me here." "Yes, indeed I did. I found you unconscious in the woods. So I brought you here." "How'd you get me a room in this place?" "Easy. I signed one out for you." "But you don't even know my name," Aleana replied. "So, how can you sign a room out for me?" "I put my name down. In fact that reminds me. What is your name?" "Aleana." "Ah, nice to meet you Aleana." Amory got out of the pool and saw the girls' face turn deep red. He looked down to find himself without any trunks. "Oops. They must've got burnt when I was casting the spell." He then quickly jumped back into the hot tub and shouted: "Hey, Aleana! Where are you going?" Soon, Aleana returned with a white towel in her hand. "Here. You might need this." she offered. Amory snatched the towel from her, climbed out of the tub and swiftly wrapped it around his waist. "Thanks. I thought I scared you off." "Heh, no you didn't." "I can see that now." There was a high sound with the beat of footsteps echoing throughout the room. It turned out to be Kaitlyn and by the looks of it she was not in a good mood. "I've got parents complaining about you, Amory!" Kaitlyn shook her finger at him. "If you're gonna show off to girls using your magic will you please do it somewhere else that doesn't have to consider my hotel?" "Sorry Katie. But you know how much this place means to me." "Yes, but why don't you go and live at your house please! That's why you bought it, right?" "Uh.... Yep!" "Then go and live there!" Then, the woman marched off to her desk. The boy tightened his grip on his towel and said, "She scares me." "You stay here instead of living at your house?" Aleana questioned while crossing her arms. "Yeah. Kind of weird but this place is home to me." He started towards the doors. "Well, I guess I'll see you around." Aleana watched the boy leave then sighed. I'll probably never see him again, she thought. The girl climbed into the hot tub and relaxed the rest of the day. "Aleana! Aleana!" A woman's voice cried. The young girl opened her eyes in shock. She was still in the pool. "Aleana, you fell asleep in there. It's 4:21 P.M. I was getting worried." Kaitlyn said. "Oh, " Aleana rubbed her eyes. "Really? I'm so sorry." "It's all right. Anyway, do you have anywhere to go?" "No. Kaitlyn, if I tell you something you promise you won't laugh?" "Of course, dear. What is it?" "Back at my hometown Harstermic, my family...well, they passed, and I was complaining about how the Guardians didn't save them. So, my friend came up with this whacked up idea that I should look for them and ask them why they didn't save my family. That's why I'm here." "Ah, I see. " Kaitlyn pushed up her glasses. "I'll give you a hint. They're very close. Now, come on my dear let's get you out of here." The woman helped Aleana out of the tub. Next, she put a towel on her shoulders. Once the young girl got inside her room she dried off and changed back in her clothes, she went back to the front desk and talked to Kaitlyn. "Do you live in this place?" Aleana asked. "Yes, I do. I got my own private room and everything. Just my own." Kaitlyn answered. "Wow. Impressive." "Haha. Well, my father was the one who built this place. Since I was the heir, and once he passed away, this place became my own." She put a smile on her face and her eyes began to glimmer with water. Aleana slightly bowed her head. "Sorry about your father." "Oh, it's all right dear." Kaitlyn brushed her sleeve along her eyes. "Why don't you go for a walk and take a look at the town." "That's a good idea. Be back later, Kaitlyn." Then, the girl skipped out the glass door.
