We were in a classroom and he is jostling with his guy friends. I don't go near him. He looks at me, and I sit down. I hear them laugh. I feel like they could be laughing at me.
I have just finished lunch at a cafe sitting outside with my family. I see Lazaro walking around the market. I don't want to make eye contact so I stare at him intermittently.
At the park, a walkway trails along a beautiful river. I sit by the edge of the cliff. I see Lazaro standing with two people sitting between us. He's overlooking the beautiful river.
He turns and looks at me, “wat's up?”
“nothing” I say as I get up and walk towards him. He walks closer. “I saw you on American Idol and-”
He nods, “yeah, I don't really care about that.”
He walks to a wall and the scenery changes slightly. His mom is sitting not on a roadside with pebbles and rocks, but on the edge of a few stairs that lower into the beautiful stream. Lazaro hugs her from behind. They are both wearing yellow shirts. His mom was big, reminding me of my Physics teacher. I sit next to her and she tells me, “You're going to have a girlfriend and grow up...” I nod.
“You must live like the girl with a long tail-”
“the Little Mermaid,” I completed.
“yes. And sometimes you must use your intuition, your brain”
We are in a room for a presenter. I walk past Lazaro as I don't want to sit right next to him, but as I walk around he points to the seat next to him. He gives me a peck on the cheek. My older sister, Dad, and Mom, who all love me, make a commotion and just stare. Lazaro kisses me again. I was smiling and I think he was just showing off to my parents. I didn't look at him, but was very aware of his presence. He leaves and goes outside. He comes back with a black bag that he had just bought from the market.
My mom sits next to me and says, “He's very handsome.”
“Ma, he's not my boyfriend.”
Lazaro gives some winning smiles.
