Moriancum Montemorency - Alexquebolier II
Moriancum had noticed the unrest in the palace for a while now. The servants were busier, as if they'll be hanged unless they rush. They would often bump into him accidentally, the first few times he got angry, until he got accustomed to it. He merely sighed; he hoped it was just one of his father's little antics. Tired from the battle he had to endure, Moriancum retired to his bedroom, expecting himself to be calmed and relaxed by the solitary atmosphere brought to him by it. He pulled a chair from the desk beside his bed and reached for his quill and journal, and then he jotted down his thoughts, his encounters, his feelings of doubt and uneasiness. Another sigh escaped from his mouth as he leaned on his chair and threw his head back.
A knock came from the door, and even without opening the door he already knew who came to see him. "The door is open, Your Majesty," but to his surprise, it wasn't his father who came to see him, but his father's right hand that he never really liked.
"His Majesty wants to speak with you, in the throne room."
When Moriancum entered the throne room, he wasn't even surprised when his father greeted him with such a big smile on his face as he hugged his son.
"Great news, child! The king from the opposing nation has proposed that we will unite our kingdoms to end this meaningless conflict."
"Meaning---"
"A union of two souls! The king's daughter should be here in a day or so."
Moriancum was opposed to the idea, he argued with his father but the response was already given without even considering his opinion on the matter. His father suggested that he should cool his head in his room and prepare for the day that the princess will arrive. He had no other choice but to do so.
Clarissa woke up that morning and stretched her arms in the air. "Mm." she closed her eyes tightly as she stretched. She pushed the covers off and turned on her bath. Stripped down her clothes she sat in the bath as the water ran.
After the bath she dried her hair with the towel and began brushing it. She had long beautiful hair. She loved it very much. She stood in front of her large mirror as she brushed her hair.
Clarissa got dressed after her hair was dry. She walked out of the room and into the dining hall where her father was sitting and already eating his breakfast. "Good morning father" she said and kissed him on the cheek. The father smiled and cot ones eating. Clarissa sat down at her original seat.
She knew today was the day she will meet her fiancé. She was really nervous and felt like her father was giving her away, or selling her just so he could gain land, respect and wealth from the other king. But it wasn't so. She had to marry to keep the two kingdoms from always fighting, to protect her people from death and war.
After they ate, her things were already packed. She sat in the carriage; her father couldn't come along since he had a few things to take care of at home.
After an hour of the long ride to the kingdom, they finally stopped the carriage. "My lady," the guard smiled and helped her out. She took a deep breath and sighed as she stepped into the palace ready to meet her fiancé."
When morning came and the bright rays of sunshine had just peered into his windows, Moriancum lay down on his bed, eyes wide open. He couldn't get a proper sleep. He couldn't understand his own feelings, if he was nervous, angry, or spiteful. He yawned, and shut his eyes trying to catch even just a few minutes of sleep, but unfortunately a loud knocking on his door prevented him from doing so.
"Arise and prepare child, today is the eventful day that thy damsel shall come."
He lazily prepared himself for his morning routine, and an extra longer preparation for the coming of this damsel that his father addresses. He was late for thirty minutes, or so his father considers, the princess has not yet arrived however the king is making such a ruckus telling that his son was late. He got an earful of lectures, getting told that he should act his age and never be late on such an eventful day. Moriancum had heard the same lectures for over five years even before his coming-of-age, he knew it too well as if it was the back of his palm.
When all the necessary preparations were done, he stood there beside his father's throne waiting for the princess who had just arrived.
Clarissa looked around the palace. It was beautiful and clean and perfect. Of course it was. She was really nervous as she headed towards the throne room where her prince was waiting. She wondered how he looked. Hoping he was at least attractive.
She entered the room after the butler introduced her. There she saw the king and beside him his son. She looked at him and blushed. She bowed slowly, "your majesty" she said. She was a bit nervous and then looked at the prince. He was very handsome indeed.
When the princess had entered the room his father beamed with pride and smiled brightly at the maiden, while Moriancum on the other hand wore a sheepish smile on his face. The girl was beautiful indeed, full of life and elegant. When she bowed in front of the king he gave an approving nod as he stood from his throne when his right hand came with a present laid on a velvet cushion.
"Please accept this humble gift for all the efforts that you made to come here," the king spoke as the butler presented it to her. It was a pendant intricately designed and with a real ruby in the center and tiny pieces of different gemstones beside it.
When Moriancum saw his father's gift, he was surprised and he tried to talk to his father but when he looked at him, his father gestured him to not to say a word. He was unsure whether he would really love her or simply love her for the sake of marriage.
Clarissa smiled and looked at the present. She realized how beautiful it is. But she didn't touch it or put it on. Instead she smiled at the guard and asked him to put it in her room. "Thank you your majesty" she said and bowed again. She then looked at the prince.
"Very well then, the wedding will be in an hour. The bride and groom should be prepared by then," the king had announced to them. He then, sat once again on his chair, leaned on its arm and whispered to Moriancum's ear, "Take this opportunity to become closer to her."
Close to what? Close to killing her for your benefit? He thought incredulously of his father's decision. I would end up becoming the criminal, again. He walked away spitefully, and took a brief glance at the princess. No, he wouldn't put her in harm's way, she is innocent and whatever his father plots he wouldn't allow it this time. When the door opened, he turned around to take a bow and left.
He took a short walk to their garden which was directly visible when one walks out of the palace. It was well kept and the plants looked vibrant. There was a fountain set in the middle and he approached it, he looked at the water but he wasn't there to see his reflection. There was something that he took from his collar. It was a locket that matched the designs of the pendant his father gave away. He looked at it with melancholy filled in his eyes.
Clarissa stared at the king and then at the prince. “Getting married so soon?” She blushed as she follows the maids into a room. She looked around and smiled at the housekeeper who walked over to her.
"Well dear we have a few gowns here. They are all the right size" she smiled.
Clarissa nodded and looked at the gowns. She wondered to herself which one she should wear to surprise her fiancé, and render him speechless.
Moriancum returned to himself and examined the fresh flowers in the garden. He wondered to himself if there were already flowers prepared for his bride. He wanted to make her look beautiful on her wedding day, because he himself knows that it is the most wonderful time of a woman's life.
He thought of the face of the beautiful maiden as he picked the right flowers to match her hair, and hopefully, her dress, and made a headband with it. He was particularly skilled in the art, probably because his late mother taught him lots of things that different kinds of girls might like. His memories made her made him smile without him noticing it.
He asked the servants to know where the princess was and discovered she was still getting prepared so he decided to wait near the room where she was.
Clarissa finally decided which dress she’d like to wear. She pointed it out and the maids began getting things ready. Clarissa smiled and realized she had to go to the bathroom. "Excuse me" she stood up and opened the door and walked out. She jumped in surprise when she saw the prince, "Prince Moriancum" she was shocked to see him outside her door.
A lot was on his mind while he was leaning against the wall on the opposite side where the door was that he didn't realize that the door opened, and when he did, he hid his hands, behind him so whoever went out wouldn't really know why he was there. He didn't really expect to see something big, maybe it was just the maids coming out but things didn't go as he expected them to be. He too, was surprised to see the princess come out with a shocked expression that he accidentally dropped the garland he made.
"I'm sorry I surprised you," he apologetically said as he picked up the headdress on the floor, "I have a gift for you."
When he raised his head up to look at her he had a better view of her face and noticed how fair she was and can't help but complement the maiden's appearance, "You look very magnificent right now, Princess, I hope this would suit you..."
Clarissa looked at him and wondered what he brought her. She felt bad because she didn't have anything to give him in return. She blushed and looked down, "Oh thank you prince Moriancum" she said. She looked at his eyes, "What do you have there?" She asked.
"It's a garland, made out of rosemaries and roses. I hope you find it favorable," he said in a very courteous manner as he gave it to her. When he gave it to her, he gazed straight into her eyes as she did the same and held it for a few seconds. He almost forgot that he wasn't the reason why she came out of the room, and so he asked her innocently, "Did I interrupt you somewhere?"
Clarissa blushed as she accepted the garland, she smiled at sweetly. "I love it. It matches my wedding dress" she chuckled. Clarissa blinked a bit confused, "what? Oh yes... The bathroom" she blushed and looked around. "Do you know where it is?" She asked.
Her display of emotions was priceless. How long Moriancum had last seen a lady smile so sweetly and innocently in front of him, he wondered for a bit. He smiled in approval when she said she loved it.
"The bathroom is actually on the opposite side of the hallway, the first door on your right just before you reach the main hall.”
Clarissa blushed and smiled and nodded, "thank you so much" she stepped closer and placed a soft kiss on his cheek. "Thank you for the garland" she smiled and walked away, heading towards the direction for the bathroom.
"You're welcome, princess," he said with a smile as she thanked him. A light shade of pink dwelled on his cheeks when she kissed him. Moriancum watched her walk away with a smile on his face as the fair maiden headed towards the bathroom.
He went to his father, and his father noticed that he was wearing clothes inappropriate for the event. He could've scolded him but the day was too perfect to be destroyed by such trivial things. He was immediately given proper care in another room, by his personal attendants, as well as his father's right hand.
Clarissa walked back into the room after her visit in the bathroom which felt great. She smiled and was quickly pulled and pushed onto the chair as they began doing her hair. Curling it and making it very beautiful, it was perfect for her head shape. The garland was perfect and fit too, then came the dress.
A Strapless, caught-up gown with dipped neckline and corset closure, a nice wrapping the dropped waist and handmade petals glistening with beaded embellishments. The fully bustled skirt finishes with a voluminous bubble hem. The shoes have a few diamonds along the side.
Before he went out of the room, his attendants made sure that he looked perfect for the eventful day. He had his uniform newly-made by the palace tailor which had been serving them from generation to generation; a lineage of creative minds skilled in sewing and handicrafts, and one of the most trusted partners of their household. His hair was also styled to fit for the event of the day, and after he was done he was led out of the room by his butler as the two of them headed for the same location.
In the throne room was his father making his own preparations for the transportation and all that. When his father realized the presence of his son he came to him and gave him a pat on the back as he asked how his son was feeling. Unsure of how to answer the question Moriancum simply shrugged. His father gave him a hard slap on the back which was strong enough to make him scramble to the ground. When he got up and fixed his clothes he furrowed his eyebrows and glared at his father. The king just gave a hearty laugh to the young lad’s gestures and told him to lighten up or he would lead a ghost kingdom if he didn’t. The two nobles simply chatted their time away while they await the bride.
