The darkness was going to eat me whole. The shadows that were chasing me were relentless. Their glowing eyes were, well you can guess, terrifying. The monsters growled and snarled, their stomachs wishing for young woman. I was doomed.
I sat straight up in my bed. The black sheets were in bits from my dreams. I swept back my auburn hair and surveyed the room with my green eyes. I wanted to jump out of the window and fly away. I couldn't, not in this form anyway. Just one more week in this mortal city, then I could go back to Faerie. One more miserable week, forced to stay in this human body. It was worse than being at the family home, in the dingy castle. I shuddered, not wanting to think about life on the Dark Isles. It was worse than anything you could imagine. And yet it was where I grew up, it holds a special place in my heart.
