The music comes out choppy, like an interrupted radio signal, yet we danced as if everything is perfect. And it almost is. I feel the gentleness in his touch against my waist as he leads me around the hallway of the rehabilitation centre. Our steps send an awkward ring to echo.
I stumble, but he moves his body to catch me and then transitions us smoothly back into the dance. He smiles, pulling my face close to his. The tension in the air is palpable, almost electric.
