Soon, the afternoon sun had vanished in the horizon. The campfire flickered brightly in front of their faces, and they excitedly exchanged stories and jokes on the mossy, overturned logs. Despite all that was happening in the world, they were determined to enjoy the last weekend before everything would change.
"To the future!" Harry held up his bottle for a toast. Though his words were hopeful, his tone was not.
"To the future CEOs of the five corporations, you mean," Mateo joked with a wink, clinking his glass against Harry's.
Paige sighed dramatically, leaning over to rest her head on Xin's shoulder. "Don't you think you're being a little too optimistic there, Matt?"
"It never hurts to dream big, I guess..." Celeste piped up, but even her usually cheerful aura was suddenly dampened. She draped dusty grey blanket around her shoulders, shivering slightly as the autumn breeze drifted by.
