The students shifted nervously in their seats.
Rosie closed her eyes, letting a multitude of mixed emotions flood through her.
She felt eager to hear the results of the scholarship competition. Had she done enough to earn a spot?
She felt proud of all that she, her section, and the rest of the ensemble, had accomplished. Every day had been chaotic in its own way, but they had managed to fight through it.
She felt grateful for all the friendships she had built this year, despite the obstacles each of them faced.
She felt happy, as she reflected on how much each of them had grown - from Olivia gaining her own tight-knit group of friends, to Jack learning to be more expressive.
She was relieved that she and Chris managed to perform their duet flawlessly, but also felt sad knowing he was about to leave the school, leave her, for bigger adventures.
"And the winners are..." announced their Headmaster, fumbling as he opened the envelope with the scholarship recipients' names. Rosie reached over and took Chris' hand. She turned, ever so slightly, meeting his eyes that were equally full of joy and sorrow.
