"So." Erin said sheepishly, leaning towards Aspen. The infirmary's old swivel chair squeaks angrily under her weight, and she sighs in annoyance.
"So." Aspen replied weakly, with the faintest smile on his lips. "This was not--"
"How you expected to spend prom?" Erin finished with a grin. "Me neither." She reached over to take his hand. It was surprisingly warm.
"You just saved the town. Your friends are still at school." Aspen spoke quietly, and slowly. His eyelids drooped. Maybe the day's events had taken a toll on his usually energetic persona, or maybe it was just the painkillers. "You don't have to stay here, you know."
"I know."
