Luman took one last drag on his cigarette and flicked it away. It was almost funny enough to make him laugh. Almost. The girl certainly wasn't what the others said she was if she fell this easily to predators of this forest. Then again, he knew of beings greater than he who had fallen prey to things more simple. It wasn't unheard of for the ingenious to manage fatality out of the mundane. He spread his large demonwings and flew down. The scavenger birds scattered like dust motes in the sun as Luman flew down to where a bloody and unconcious girl lay precariously on the mountain.
"All right, you. No dying now. You can do that on your own time. Later." He picked her up, carefull to not break anything more on her, and inspected the gash on her head. She might need some stitches, and she felt unbalanced... maybe a broken limb?
He shrugged, and hefted her over his shoulder, and turned to look at the mountain. With a blink of an eye, a black and blue portal appeared in the air just before the mountain-face, and he stepped through...
... and into the demon-realm he called home. He wasn't at his personal plot of hell, though, but in front of a large red building, a few stories high, made of what looked like small brick colored stones (but upon further investigation would reveal to be compressed hearts, of all kinds of different shapes and sizes). Luman
shifted the girl's weight on his shoulder, and he carried her, like a potatoe sack, into the red heart building.
He was greeted by a red-haired demon, with a red demon tail, wearing a white nurse suit.
"How can we help you today?" she asked, her pointed teeth looking awkward in a forced smile.
He raised the corners of his mouth in a farce of a smile, before smacking the girl that he held over his should on her bottom. "She needs some work. Poisoned, bleeding, and maybe a broken limb."
The girl's faux-sweet smile turned into a devious grin for a split second.
Luman rolled his eyes. "I need you to fix those things on her, not cause them." he said harshly.
"Oh, poo." she said, and reached around the desk, and handed him a clipboard. "Just lay her on the table, and we'll take a look at her." she said absently.
Luman started scribbling away at the forms. "Hey. If you don't fix her right, I won't be bringing in any more of my leftovers." he said, his eyes fixed on the girl. Luman was, after all, one of the biggest contributors to the expansion of the red heart hospital, of course. And she had to know that. And although money was abundant in this realm, the building stones were not that easily come by, and no one else contributed so many of those.
She nodded and whistled shrilly. A team of three other nurses (one in aqua and two in purple) same out and wheeled the girl into the back.
"Anything else we need to know?" she asked, as Luman handed her the clipboard back moments later.
"Ya," Luman said, starting to light up a cigarette, "she's a quarter angel, and doesn't know how to block powers." he said non-chalently.
He should have told her when the girl was wheeled off. The nurse ran back into the other room, to try to tell the attendants, but a shrill scream, followed by a seond wail drifted down the hall before the nurse was heard shouting for them to back off and put on some dragon-hide gloves.
Luman just laughed, sat down in the reception room, and read a magazine. He occassionally took a drag from his cigarette, and waited for the demons to fix the little mutt neice of his.
