The odd group of the Mage Taran, Rose, and two gwees tromped slowly through Gaia. The mage was prattling on again on how Rose should be able to fly without wings. Rose didn't want to hear it, so she listened only with an idle ear. She usually would have loved to hear more about how she could use her powers. But not right now. Right now, there was just way too much going on in her head.

Blue had found a way around the instant speakerthought that the gwees set up. If she thought softly enough, only Rose (and the gwees) could hear her. And she had a lot to voice only to Rose.

'We need to have ANTIE send messages to our friends explaining the... issues we were having after Luman got to us. We are going to have to explain that you did it all, and had severe amnesia. Then we need to-'

'Shut up!' Rose thought back fiercely. 'I am not going to apologize. I did what I did. I am not sorry I did it. It was fun. I'm just sorry I didn't do that and worse to Luman!'

'Look, we did great damage here!'

'I did the damage here. I am in control. I am not sorry, and I think what I did was awesome, not just great.'

'They are our friends!'

'They are your friends. Not mine. I have no friends.'

'Hmph. Then what about the mage? He isn't your friend?'

'No. He's not. He is your friend, since you saved him. He would run away screaming if I managed to silence you.'

'All right. Then, since that is always a possibility since we know so little about this condition of ours, why does he stay?'

'Doesn't really want us to have the gwees. He is going to try to take them back.'

'Ha! There! You said us!'

Rose shook her head in annoyance, and ignored the voice.

"You don't think it would be worth a try?" asked Taran.

Rose looked over at him and frantically tried to pick out his previous sentence. "Well, I don't want to try jumping off of things right now."

"But if you can get fixed, you may never be able to try with just your demon part."

Rose shook her head at him. "And if I break my leg, it may take weeks before I can be on my way again."

Taran shrugged. "I still think you ought to try. Think about it." he said.

Rose was beginning to feel frustrated. And she was getting angrier by the minute. With blue in her head telling her what she did wrong, and Taran telling her to try crazy stunts, she was beginning to feel dizzy.

'No!' 'Rose!' shouted Jaa and Tuli in her head.

But Rose looked at the gwees, dazed, and wondered why they were flying in front of her head. Then Taran's head loomed over her. Hazily, she realized she was on the ground. Then she passed out.

Luman smiled. "Good. I haven't lost complete control. But I need to get her alone to take her back." He sighed. "Though, this time, I'm afraid I can leave her with no sense of self. She would have been better with the demon consciousness only. More powerful. But a mindless drone of such proportions will still suffice."
