"What are they doing?" asked Rilla.
"Nothing, so it seems." asnswered third corporal Jirian.
"I thought they wanted clearance to dock and proceed to the planet?" asked Rilla again.
"That's what their initial correspondance implies." Confirmed Jirian.
"Then what is going on?" asked Rilla, now concerned. The Nerissa Altsoba, the infamous Nerissa Altsoba was hovering a mere fifty feet from dock. Like it had suddenly gone adrift. Whatever had happened, it was most definately not good. And Rilla had been hoping that this time, a meeting with the Nerissa would be peaceful.
Jirian shook his head. Rilla was the third commander to ask him that since he reoprted the Nerissa Altsoba's approach to Lia Alit Iil-tia, and then her... stall.
But Rilla was there the last time, and she remembered what had happened.
"What are you about, Dragon?" Rilla mumbled under her breath. "What are you about?"
Rilla's wristband tingled and faded to white. She sighed, and waved her wand in front of the screen. The entire front-deck screen changed from the image of the listless Altsoba to that of her Majesty, Queen Illiana.
"What news?" she asked calmly. As if the approach and then surprising stall of the ship that had almost destroyed the fairies' base homeworld years ago was no more concerning than if it would rain rather than snow during the winter.
"None, Your Majesty." Rilla answered, and curtsied. "And that is the problem. The Nerissa looks... adrift. And we can not summon a response."
Queen Illiana pursed her lips. That, and nothing else but a pause.
"Rilla, I trust you to make the correct decision. Either they are in distress, or I am forgetting who we were dealing with. And I very much doubt that. But, adrift, they stand no threat to us. Help, or not, I trust you to decide."
Rilla nodded, and the screen went back to showing the Nerissa, adrift. Rilla sighed, and looked at the fairies working at the dock. There were expert Quick-Healers, for those ships that came in with immediate medical needs. There were Crusaders, like Jirian here, part of the main Force of Lia Ali Iil-tia. And there were the scientists, like Rilla herself. More of a combination of scientist, warrior and philosopher, the Eylyrs were the elite of the Force of Fairies. And besides the Crusaders, the only ones who would be sent for a battle. Rilla smiled again. The Crusaders went to battle like a regular military, but Eylyrs were more like spies, if fairies could be said to have such a thing.
