As you may know, Gaia Online is a forums-based website that has been open in various forms since early 2003. Users of the site are called Gaians and you can create a customizable avatar to utilize throughout the site to interact with others, purchase items, play games and other activities.
Purchasing Power:
As with most games, you need currency to gain the things you need to enjoy the site. In Gaia Online, the amount of Gold you have will determine to a large degree how much fun you can have.
How do you gain Gold? Most activities on the site will add Gold to your bank account, whether it is browsing forums, posting on forums, and navigating throughout the site. Also playing minigames and leaving comments in user profiles will get you more Gold.
What to do with all that Gold? There are various shops in game that sell items for your avatar and for your in-game house, and in addition, a marketplace where you can buy and sell things with other Gaians.
Forums:
Gaia Online’s forums are known throughout the world and is among the largest online. The forums allow Gaians to chat about almost any subject. The forum system also has a private messaging system which enables users to speak with each other on a more personal level.
Quests:
Quests are somewhat of a newer feature that has had its share of bugs. More details on the Quest system will be released in a future update to this guide.
Guilds:
Users with similar interests can form Guilds once and costs 20,000 Gold. Whatever interests your Guild can have is as varied and diverse as the huge Gaian community. Sometimes guilds can be bought from other players at more or less Gold, depending on that guild’s popularity. The Guild can have sub-forums within for which entry can be granted or denied by the Guild Captain.
Games:
There are many fun games to play on Gaia Online, which utilize Flash or Shockwave software to run. These games are fun to play, and they also can make you more Gold. Examples of the Gaia games are Fishing, Word Bump and Cards.
The Arenas:
There are multiple arenas in Gaia Online where Gaians can offer their Avatars, Homes and Artwork in weekly contests for other Gaians to vote on. The Avatar and Homes areans have entry fees, but the Artwork arena does not.
It really pays to have your Avatar dressed up and your home with lots of nice furnishings and good interior design to have a chance to win. Many Gaians take their Avatars and homes very seriously. The winners can win up to 50,000 Gold.
