All of your plans are subject to and at the mercy of someone else's intellect; every move you make decreases your ability to comprehend every possible counter; your weakest unit becomes your most powerful; your core is vulnerable in and of itself, requiring many defenders; your first move means nothing to the rest of the game; your layers go from appearance to the physical to the mental to the spiritual to the definition of existence; the board faces the constant fear of an interfering arm.
The differences: you have more than one chess board, don't get a fair number of moves to make up for it, and not everything is in black and white.
But, of everything in the world, what feels better than beating a skilled opponent in a battle of wit and intellect?
