Kruez was amazed completely by the surface. He couldn’t’ stop staring as he led Edda along the rocky terrain. There wasn’t much to look at by standards, but to them--being Kruez-- it was amazing. The blue of the sky with the fluffy white clouds rolling by. The breeze. He loved the breeze, as did Edda. She commented on it most the times she felt it blow over, disrupt her hair as she smiled. “Its…clear here.” She commented on the air and the feeling.

They didn’t walk far before they found a small marsh. If that. Kruez was amazed by the greens of the grass, and the sounds of small insects or amphibians’ creaking in the moist ground. It was much different than the area they’d been on since breaking free of the underground pit. He stepped over first, finding his boot sink slightly in the darker mud. He searched, finding a solid spot as he led Edda through the reeds. “Careful, it gets kind of squishy.” Kruez chuckled as Edda squealed when some mud found its way up her sandal and between her toes. Kruez laughed, “Its like, watered down…dirt.” He said, trying to describe it. “Why would you waste the precious water making dirt wet?” Edda asked, confused. “This waters like….ment to be here.” He answered, spotting a small pond like area of clear water.

He led her down near the base of the pond, just before the soil started to get really wet. “How about we take a break?” Kruez suggested, gently kneeling down to help Edda down onto the dry land comfortably. “We’ll eat something, You hungry?” He asked. As Kruez unpacked the food he’d snuck out with from his sling on his back, Edda sat, enjoying the cool breeze from the small body of water. The gentle green grass brushing her cheek. She was silent, until she felt something at her toes. She wiggled them, but felt it again, like a hard rock almost, nudging her. “Kruez…stop.” She muttered. This was one thing she hated about being blind.

Although, Kruez hadn’t done anything. “huh?” He asked, looking over as his eyes widened. “Oh Edda! Its some, like, Animal!” He exclaimed. There by Edda’s feet was a small bird like animal. It had a plump body, and a curved end, like a tail. Webbed feet and a long neck, where a rounded bill protruded. A duck. But they didn’t know it was a duck. “W-What is it, Kruez…?” She said nervously, moving her foot as the duck followed it curiously, letting out a loud “QUACK!” as she jumped. Kruez laughed. “This thing is so neat! I wish you could see it.” He said as he moved closer to the strange animal.

He was so caught up in the small black and white duck, he didn’t even notice more of them coming to shore to see them. Edda noticed the extra noise as she turned her head, listening. “Haha! There are more of them Edda!” Kruez said happily. “What do they look like?” She asked. She’d become used to there noises and gentle touches on her legs and feet. And now adored the creatures she imagined from Kruez’s descriptions. He told her every color they came in. Some as black as the underside of her hair, while some as white as the clouds in the sky.

They soon ate, sitting with the ducks as Kruez slipped them some food they ate graciously. Edda was all smiles as the ducks gently picked at her legs, feet and dress, quacking and cuddling up next to her. Kruez loved seeing her this happy as he watched, a few of the ducks exploring his outline as well. “I like those animals.” Edda commented once the sun had set and the ducks had retreated to the water to their home. Kruez nodded, sitting close to her. He had not idea what to do, and figured they’d sleep there after their long day. The night sky was beautiful, and he wanted to just stare at it forever. “Get some rest, Honey.” He said as he gently kissed Edda’s forehead, laying her down, head resting in his lap. Before long although, they were both fast asleep, tucked away in the reeds near the pond..
