Sounds of Freedom
Never tried roleplaying before, so we'll see how it goes. This is my character profile, William Yap (No stealing, not that you really want to X3)
Full name: William Yap (Will) Status: Experiment Gender: Male Age: 35 Voice: A little raspy due to little use during his time in prison Orientation: Never gave any serious thought about it, but if he was asked, he’d choose—women
Appearance: William Height: 6’3’’ Body structure: More on the skinny side Animal appearance: Gray Wolf Band color: Red Other: Two scars on his left arm from old bullet wounds
Personality: Laidback- Will is a fairly calm person, who doesn’t feel pressured under stressful or awkward situations, but he does get bored quite easily.
Friendly- Despite being charged with theft and murder, he knows how to talk to people, and he is a relatively pleasant person to be around, or at least he acts like it.
Perceptive- Although he doesn’t seem to be, Will is a very observant fellow. Hardly anything escapes his notice.
Independent- He doesn’t like being dependent on others, so he often works alone. Plus, the possibility of “owing” somebody else a favor annoys him.
Likes: - Dry humor - What’s life without a little laughter? - A good story- Inspires his writing. - Rain- The sound of it is soothing and standing in it makes him feel refreshed.
Dislikes: - Pity- In his opinion, if he can live through life without being pitied, then he need not pity anyone else. - Police officers- Even though he’s out of jail, Will still holds a slight grudge against police officers, especially against the one who managed to catch him in the end. - Hot weather- Makes everything seem to go slower than it really is. - Clowns- For some absurd reason, the old lady who raised him had the idea that he liked going to the circus, even though he insisted that she not waste her money on taking him there every-single-freaking-day. Perhaps that was one of the reasons why he killed her in the end.
Talents: - Will likes to write and tell stories. His stories are usually inspired from his many experiences as a criminal and about the people he has met along the way. It’s a little twisted, considering what he’s done to most of those people, but some interesting stories do come up. - He has a knack for manipulating people into doing what he wants them to do. Although, ever since he was released, he doesn’t use this ability unless he thinks it absolutely necessary. - Will is a very fast runner. His long legs have helped him get out of a lot of close encounters with the police. - He’s an excellent lock-picker. His fingers are like magic; give him any lock, and he’ll open it in a matter of seconds. However, he’s still having trouble figuring out how some of the locks in the lab work…
Fears and Weaknesses: Laziness- It’s hard for Will to get motivated into doing something, unless he sees an advantage for him.
Boredom- Even though he’s extremely lazy, he fears that he will be stuck in life with nothing to do. He strives for adventure and excitement, in his own illicit way.
History: Thief and con artist, William Yap was sentenced to a lifetime in prison.
He doesn’t know who his parents are; in fact, his earliest memories were of being raised by a wealthy, old lady. One day, a maid found the old lady lying face down, dead, in a pool of blood with a bullet hole through her head. Everything in the house was gone, including the gun that was used in the murder and the fourteen-year-old boy who used it.
After that incident, Will continued his life as a wanted criminal. He decided that he wouldn’t be one of those amateurs who just stole from the people walking on the street. Instead, he would aim for the top—meaning he stole money from the largest business corporations across the country, and he also managed to slip past the security systems of a few gambling casinos. Wealthy families were also one of Will’s favorite targets. Once he showed them that he was on their same level, financially, and maybe even do them a few favors, they were so easy to fool. When he became bored with his victims, he would simply get rid of them.
William Yap is not his real name. It was the last name he used before he was thrown into prison. During each of his “projects” (for that’s what he called them), he would change his identity. He changed his name so many times, that he’s forgotten what it really is. However, having multiple identities has helped him avoid the law enforcers that were constantly on his trail.
There was one particular police officer who was especially nasty. Each time the police was called, it was always him that Will encountered first. Will didn’t know what this policeman was called, so he simply named him Mr. MOPS (My Own Policeman Stalker). Will assumed that he was the lead officer assigned to catch him. He liked to taunt Mr. MOPS because he thought it was amusing to see the police officer aggravated after each of his failed attempts to capture the thief—like Bugs Bunny and the Elmer Fudd. However, there was one time when Mr. MOPS injured him severely. Will was shot twice in his left arm. Both bullets just barely grazed him, so he was still able to escape, but it took quite a while to stop the bleeding. Ever since then, Will has been more cautious around Mr. MOPS.
Unfortunately, (and he’s regretted this ever since) Will accidently let a very small, yet vital piece of information fall into the hands of his last victim, who immediately contacted the police. Thus, the notorious thief was finally caught by the smug Mr. MOPS, but not without first slaughtering the b*****d who had turned him in.
Will accepted his life sentence without a fight, knowing that he had stolen from and killed more than his fair share of people. He told the judge that he didn’t really mind being locked in a cell for the rest of his life—as long as he didn’t get bored. Turns out it was easier said than done. After the first three years of prison, Will was absolutely bored out of mind. Even though he appeared not to care about his “doomed” fate, there was still no way he was going to die in that godforsaken place.
During the eighth year, Will received some visitors—two men in white lab coats. Scientists, they told him. He heard about half of what they said before immediately agreeing to go with them. Let them do whatever experiments they’d like, as long as he could get out of that damn cell. Besides, he thought as he signed his name on the proper paperwork, this could be an interesting adventure. He wouldn’t get bored there—or so he thought.
Now in his third year at the lab, Will is starting to have second-thoughts…
