"You want to know about me, huh? Well..."

<p>Declan Haushinka is almost Mr. Nice Guy. He can be mean, if he finds himself in the right position. He's found himself in a few confrontations in his life, some involving his father, others involving friends. Regardless of who the fight was with, Declan fared well in almost any fist fight he found himself in.

<p>The oldest Haushinka held interests in comics, scary movies, his family, and music. He, of course had other interests, but these were the most prominent. Nightwing was easily his favorite comic book character, followed by Batman. He'd been reading comics since he was a child, which was why he tried so hard to get the job at the local comic store. He also wanted to work at a music store in town, but the comic store worked out first, and he was thrilled. Later he applied for part time at Music Central, and found himself working two very fun jobs.

<p>Declan tried to always be there for his family. The four Haushinka's were a fairly close family, especially the siblings. Declan enjoyed being the "cool" older brother, while it lasted. He disliked being the overbearing brother, which seemed to last a lot longer.

<p>He's a thinker, so he thinks about things a lot, particularly when he's driving. Declan likes all types of music, classic rock being his favorite. He's pretty goofy and quirky, but he can always buckle down and be serious. He loves Raisinets, tea, and cats. Declan played drums in band from junior high through college, and sang in choir from high school until college.

"My past? I'd rather not talk about it, if you don't mind?"

<p>Albert Haushinka married Fiona Duncan right out of high school. The young couple were happy newly weds for a handful of months when the Fiona discovered she was pregnant. She was thrilled, being a mom was all the Irish woman had ever wanted. Albert was only happy when he found out she was carrying a boy. The couple started fighting soon after that over the name. Fiona won. Declan was born December 9. The boy closely resembled his mother, sharing her chin, nose, eyes, and hair color. His father was disappointed. Albert had wanted his son to look like him, the way he had shared physical similarities with his own father. The man did his best to ignore the disappointment and tired to remember that he was raising their son, so they would have other things in common.

<p>If asked, Declan would shrug off his childhood. The first seven years of his life were really lonely. He often had his parents fighting, leaving him to his own devices. He chose early on not to think of his early childhood, thus having many holes when it comes to his memories. Declan spent the majority of his time with his mom, who loved children and had enough patience for the mischievous little boy. Albert found Declan's antics to be frustrating and annoying. The child had little interest in cars, sports, racing, or hunting, which were Albert's favorite interests. Albert also had no patience for children, putting a strain on the relationship Declan had with him early on.

<p>In August, Declan's wish was finally granted. Fiona was pregnant again. Six year old Declan was thrilled! He had been begging his parents for a baby brother or sister for the past two and a half years. Little did he know, his mom had been begging for another child, too. Albert finally gave in, hoping the next child would have a stronger inclination to be with him. Declan was a mamma's boy, and it felt, to Albert, that Declan didn't ever want to spend time with him.

<p>On March 3, the Haushinka family grew. Little seven year old Declan welcomed his little sister with joy and pride. Declan was meant to be a brother. He loved it. He loved helping his mom take care of little Lucy Haushinka. He would read to her, help changer her diapers, play with her, and feed her. Albert had never really enjoyed babies the way his wife, and apparently his son, did; he mostly stayed out of their way and let them take care of Lucy. As the children grew, they became thick as thieves. While she sometimes got on his nerves, the majority of the time the siblings got along.

<p>By the time Fiona got pregnant a third time, the marriage was almost over. Albert had been cheating on her for years. The woman chose to stay with him, for her kids, despite his behavior. The youngest of the Haushinka's was born in 2009. Declan was twelve, almost a teenager, and once again was thrilled. Declan and Lucy cared for their baby brother, who was finally the child Albert had always wanted. William Haushinka was less unruly than his older siblings. He was intrigued with cars, and later sports. While Declan learned to play drums, William was rolling around the living room with toy race cars.

<p>The level of interest Albert paid to William didn't go unnoticed by Declan. The boy found it hurtful that his father didn't seem to care about him or Lucy. Declan grew ever more distant with his father. Tensions rose between Declan and Albert, until finally, when Declan was fifteen, they finally exploded. He was scrappy, but his father had more experience and muscle on him. Fiona turned the hose on them when Lucy told her mom what was happening. Declan was sent inside with his sister and brother. The marriage collapsed; Fiona couldn't stay with a man willing to harm his own son. Declan's dislike for Albert ran deep, it was yet another thing he and Lucy agreed on.

<p>Declan finished high school and began college. He went from a southern California town to a small, northern California town. Humbolt University welcomed the young man, and he thrived there. A year before he graduated, Declan's girlfriend got pregnant. He was worried at first, but then the excitement bubbled up. They had enough love between them to care for a baby. She was about to graduate, and Declan only had a year left. She didn't feel the same way he did about their future and the baby, so she made the decision to get an abortion. Declan didn't find out until after the procedure. He was devastated. The young man tried to look past her actions, but it eventually tore their relationship apart. He kept this entire incident from his family, not even telling his mom or sister, who he was closest with. He graduated and moved back home to be with his family, leaving his college life, and his almost child, in his past.

<p>During a family trip to visit Fiona's sister in New Orleans, an epidemic began. The four Haushinka's separated when Declan and Lucy went into the city and their brother and mom stayed at the Duncan plantation. Lucy and Declan then split up to do different things in New Orleans, later turning out to be a bad idea. When Declan saw the first zombie attacking someone on the street, he immediately began searching for Lucy. He's been trying to find his sister ever since, to no avail.

<p>Declan has no experience with weapons, aside from his fists. He's been in a few bar fights. He won't talk about his dad with anyone other than his sister, although he used to talk about Albert with his girlfriend, before they broke up.
