This essay has really put me in the dumps; its made me realise just how depressing the future of Gaidhlig is. I finally finished it but it's way sad.
I was going to post a translated version of it and although it wouldn't take long, I just can't be assed. Basically, the Scottish government's like "We're helping! look at our plan! woo! go Gaidhlig!" but then you look at the statistics and in short, there aren't enough children going into Gaidhlig medium education to sustain the language nevermind trying to reverse language shift. There are only 60000 Gaidhlig speakers in the world and the majority of which are spread out across other countries but those populations of Gaidhlig speakers will die out. It makes me sad that such a big part of Scottish history and culture is slowly meeting its maker - I could be part of the last generation of Gaidhlig speakers. *sigh*
